Blue tourist plaques could be put up at two of Kidderminster’s landmark buildings, it was revealed today.

Kidderminster Civic Society is seeking to have the heritage plaques erected on the Piano Building, which stands in the centre of town and which was originally a wool and coal store.

They also want to see a tourist plaque erected on The Slingfield Mill Building, which was originally a spinning mill.

Tourist plaques have already been installed on several properties around the town including outside the former Frank Freemans’s Dance Club in Mill Street.

This was unveiled by rock legend Robert Plant more than a year ago as a tribute to the entertainment promoter Frank Freeman who brought dozens of the top names of rock and roll to the town in the 60s and 70s.

Other plaques have been unveiled to mark the area occupied by the former Harveys sherry firm wine vaults, which now lie hidden beneath the Swan Shopping Centre, and the area thought to mark the start of the town’s carpet industry.
