Steaming ahead with fundraising
Thursday 25th June 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Steam enthusiasts from Staffordshire have presented the proceeds from a local engine and miniature steam rally to the Midlands Air Ambulance charity.
Barton Gate Charity Steam Rally was held in July 2008, attracting hundreds of visitors to its venue at Barton-under-Needwood.
The two day event was in aid of local charities, including the Air Ambulance, which received a £1,000 donation.
The Staffordshire based aircrew recently invited organisers of the steam rally to the helicopter base at Tatenhill Airfield near Burton to present the cheque to the charity.
Speaking about the rally and its benefit to the charity, Liz Greenwood, representing the rally organisers said: “I am delighted that the Charity Steam Rally was able to raise £1,000 for the Staffordshire based Air Ambulance, which is such a worthy local charity and one of our near neighbours.”
Helen Hitchman, area fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance said: “I am grateful to the members of Barton Gate Steam Rally for considering our charity.
“Thank you to everyone for supporting Midlands Air Ambulance and raising this magnificent sum of money for our charity.”
The 2009 Barton Gate Charity Steam Rally will be held on July 18 and 19 at Needwood Rise Farm, Barton Gate, Barton under Needwood.
On show will be a range of steam engines and machine attractions with the proceeds again going to local charities, including the Midlands Air Ambulance.
The air ambulance receives no government, NHS or lottery funding and requires £5.6 million each year to ensure the life-saving helicopter service continues to fly across the region.
