Saddlers boss feeling the pressure

Thursday 25th June 2009, 10:45AM BST.

MANAGER 9 TS 20Walsall manager Chris Hutchings admits he is already under pressure to deliver the goods at the Banks’s Stadium next season.

The Saddlers boss impressed in his 22-game stint in League One last season, despite failing to improve on the 13th position he inherited after taking over in January.

But, with pre-season just over a week away, Hutchings knows his squad must improve over the summer and make a flying start in August.

He said: “There is pressure to perform straight away. Whether you have a six-month contract or a three-year contract, everyone wants success, but not everyone can have it.

“Whatever club you are at, it is going to have an ambition and a realistic target of where it wants to get to and it takes time.

“What you end up doing is putting yourself under pressure.”

Hutchings reckons the pressures on today’s modern manager affects every boss in the country.

He saoid: “You could go into a club and half the players you have you don’t want, but you can’t move them on for one reason or another, whether that is wages or they don’t want to go.”

What a pathetic club we have become, thats all I can say.

Constant dribble coming from the place makes me so happy im not going next season!

All the best you lot, its gonna be a long long season for ya.

I think that’s a bit harsh. I think the only reason all these rubbish stories are coming out with interviews about how hard it is to manage a small league 1 club is because there’s no other news to report and they want to give us something to read. I’d still rather that was about a signing though!

What a ridiculous comment from Don.

The article relates to the pressures on all modern league managers.
I can’t see anyway that can be construed to criticise the club.

If you don’t want to go – then don’t go – you don’t have to look for excuses to try to justify it.

Its not an excuse steve (or should i say mr bonser) its a reason, seen and heard it all before.

Perhaps the club should put the money used to run the equally pathetic ad campain ‘back to the fortress’ into the playing side, far better way of gaining more supporters.

on the plus side we are a ‘well run club’ so im sure everything will end up fine.

what Hutch is saying is, he hasn’t got a hope next season, he is unable to sign anyone, he is just preparing us for the invetiable. We’ll end up with a load of jokers who nobody else wants, but hey it dont matter does it jeff, we are a well run club.

Don – read the article again.

As I must have missed them in my attempt at reading it with a balanced perception , please let me know the comments in the article that you think

    1. Have been released by the club
    2. Relate directly to Walsall FC

‘Constant dribble’ isn’t that what you used to get from 1950′s wingers?

Well the moaners are in full swing, slagging off the club in fine style. Yet they still log on to sites like this. Strange thing to do if you don’t care and “shan’t be there next season”! Once a Saddler always a Saddler………

He said “you could go into a club and half the players you have you don’t want , and the other half have either been sold or offered better deals at clubs that want their football club to actually try and compete ,or just jumped ship as soon as they possibly can !!What a sorry club we’ve become , no , always been !! Just changing the tack somewhat , why don’t we reduce the price of season tickets to get more bums on seats ? doesn’t it make more sense to have a full stadium rather than an almost empty one , it would create a better atmosphere for the players and would i’m sure make them perform much better with a ground buzzing with the crowd behind them ?? If you had ten thousand attending rather than three , you would creat revenue from i.e more people would buy a program , would buy more drinks , would buy more food , would buy more stuff from the club shop , etc , etc It would also let people who can’t just quite afford to , but would like to start going , it would also stimulate more kids to go with their parents and hence start the next generation of supports !! does this not make more sense , or is it better to be an almost empty stadium that nobody really wants to go … players included !!!

What would you rather have – a club that is in the position that we are now, stable and ticking over, or one like Luton, Accrington Stanley etc?

Whatever you think about Bonser, he is running a tight ship and keeping us afloat.

Big Daddy, stable and ticking over?

Err, £2m in debt, with no assets, a shrinking fan base, running at a loss.

‘Stable’ and ‘ticking over’ are so far from the truth you might aswell be in Accrington.
