Striker looking to Football League

Kiddy v Burton 12 JAH 13Kidderminster striker Matthew Barnes-Homer has his sights on becoming a Football League player within the next two years.

The Harriers hotshot signed a new deal on Monday that ties him to Aggborough until the summer of 2011.

After 21 goals last season, the 23-year-old had become hot property and was coveted by Oxford among others – but any club would have had to pay a compensation fee as the player is under 24.

That will not be the case when his next contract expires, with the former Wolves youngster hoping he could make the step up into the league before that.

Barnes-Homer’s unwavering faith in manager Mark Yates has left him thinking that his mentor can pull off a few more coups and get promotion this time.

But if the star striker has another prolific campaign, Harriers may have to brace themselves for a serious cash offer from higher levels next summer.

Either way, the forward feels he has a bright future ahead.

He said: “Who could say what can happen, you never know in football. I want to play in the Football League eventually – I have made no secret of that – but I feel another season with Harriers is right for my development.

“If we can get up next season, there will be no one more delighted than me. When I signed the deal, I had total trust in the gaffer that he would in the coming weeks produce a side that can have us challenging.

“He has done it before, he can do it again.”
