Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Hutch enters the bargain basement
Wednesday 24th June 2009, 10:48AM BST.
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings admits he is working with the smallest budget of his career but is relishing the challenge.
The Saddlers boss’ transfer dealings at the Banks’s Stadium are a far cry from his previous multi-million pound moves.
Hutchings is currently eyeing defender Ian Breckin, available on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest, but has yet to make a permanent signing in six months in charge.
But he spent £2.5million on David Hopkin while at Bradford in 2000, as well as bringing former Villa striker Stan Collymore to Valley Parade.
In 2007, Jason Koumas made the £5.3m switch from Albion to Wigan when Hutchings was Latics boss, but he concedes those figures are the stuff of dreams for the Saddlers.
The manager said: “Being at Wigan and Bradford in the Premier League and now here is a little bit like chalk and cheese, but we are where we are and we’ve got to deal with it.
“You always relish the challenge. At the other clubs we were looking at international players the majority of the time and they command big league wages.
“It is different to what we’ve got now, but we want the best for the club.”
Pre-season training starts next Thursday, with fans hopeful of new faces after the loss of Jabo Ibehre to MK Dons and the release of Michael Ricketts, Stephen Hughes and Paul Boertien.

You knew the situation when you took the job.No money no ambition no players.

I somehow think hutch is getting fed up with Bonser and the club already.
He’s had two little swipes at the club in the past few days. He’ll be gone by christmas.

I, too, get the distinct impression that Hutch is only now realising the kind of task he’s taken on, and, yes, he does sound fed up. It seems that no-one is particularly looking forward to the new season, we’ve had nothing to make us feel optimistic. It could be a long old year.

I AGREE WITH U KEV.

Since when have Wigan and Bradford been “BIG” clubs, wigan may have a rich owner, but they are still a small club,i think Hutchings is just trying to boost his own CV.

Yeah but Hutchings forgets to leave out while he spent that much money it got him no where and he flopped badly.
At Bradford he only won 1 game out of 13 in the league before being sacked then at Wigan left them in the mire after being sacked with winning no games in 8-9 i think it was!
I think he should shut up and win a few games before he starts complaining about budgets, he has proved nothing at the top level, and I doubt he’ll succeed with Walsall either!
He moans about budgets etc, but I am sure its no different for Scunthorpe, Carlisle, Southend etc. and they normally do pretty well!

Big wow. What a shock, a league 1 budget is smaller than a premiership one? Come on lads what’s this? the day the tea boy had a go at being a journo
