Elokobi looking to shock Premier

Fit-again George Elokobi insists Wolves are aiming to surprise a few people in the Premier League next season.
The left-back is fully fit after recovering from a cruciate knee ligament reconstruction and has joined his boss Mick McCarthy in warning that the team aren’t just there for a ‘stadium tour’ when the new campaign kicks off in August.
The club have already splashed out on their costliest midfielder, £2.6million Serbian international Nenad Milijas and they are prepared to double their club record transfer fee after talking to £6.5m-rated Reading striker Kevin Doyle.
At least another three signings are planned before the big kick off against West Ham on August 15.
Elokobi said: “We’re not just coming for the show, we’re coming to stay in the Premier League and make sure we finish as high up as we can.
“Everyone is working for that at the club, and hopefully we’re going to surprise a few people.
“We’ve got to work extremely hard to make sure we have a good crack in the Premier League.”
Defender Elokobi is like a new signing himself, having played just four League games as Wolves won the Championship.
Competing with Stephen Ward and Matt Hill, the 23-year-old knows it won’t be easy to win a place in the team.
But just five years after playing Sunday League and non-League with Dulwich Hamlet, the former Colchester man insists he’s ready for the toughest league in the world, after spells in each of the three lower tiers of English football.
He said: “No one ever thought I would get this far, but George Elokobi is ready for the Premier League.
“I’ve tested myself at League Two, League One and non-league. I’ve tested myself in the Championship and now bring on the Premier League.”
