Megson eyes fresh Morrison bid

Tuesday 23rd June 2009, 9:43AM BST.

VILLA ALBION 10 DH 6Bolton are threatening a double-hit on Albion in this summer’s transfer battle of wills – by making a fresh move for midfielder James Morrison.

The Premier League club are already locked in a struggle with the Baggies to recruit unsettled full-back Paul Robinson.

Now sources at The Reebok claim that former Albion manager Gary Megson still wants to add Morrison to his numbers, after having a £2million bid for the midfielder rejected in January.

Against the backdrop of one of football’s most deeply entrenched feuds between Albion chairman Jeremy Peace and his former boss Megson, the scene is set for a bitter struggle behind the scenes.

Albion have already swatted away Bolton’s £500,000 offer for 30-year-old Robinson and want double that.

Bolton, in response, have insisted they will not go to £1million and briefed media circles close to the club that other candidates for that position are being sought.

But there is still a good chance the two clubs will strike a compromise deal over Robinson before the battle over Morrison, one of the undoubted hits of Albion’s Premier League campaign, resumes.

The problem for the Baggies now is that Mowbray’s exit weakened the loyalty factor demanded by the former manager in the wake of relegation – and the prospect of a Premier League contract could unsettle the top players.

The Express and Wolves appear to be loving this again putting the boot in where they can. All you read about the Wolves is how they are going to sign this player and that when they have actually so far only managed to sign a 37 year old reserve goalkeeper!. The Serbian bloke has had his work permit refused i believe and if Bolton or Everton are in for Doyle he’ll be going there instead. Could we have some positive news please express and wolves not another story designed to unsettle every player at the club. Kick us while we’re down why don’t you!. The thing that bothers me the most is that all our players are under contract and no-one will leave on the cheap and always on our terms but this paper seems to think players will click their fingers and clubs will put in low bids and we will crumble. Under JP, no chance!

Hmm, JP back down to Megson, now there’s a thought – NOT!!

Megson will have to pay more not less than others to get anyone from Albion, just how many times does Peace have to play hardball before you believe him.

    Here Here!!!
Because I’m beyond the years of 50 just remind me who got us relegated last season…was it this band of ‘Superstars’ that now want to leave because we are in the second tier of English football?? I think they ought to have a long hard look in the mirror, remember who’s paying their inflated salaries and knuckle down and get the job sorted!! The previous ‘Judus’ ask for them to show loyalty and then left himself so it’s difficult for them to comprehend but as stated they are under contract and rightly so JP will make them stay or make them pay…no arguments with that philosophy. Let’s have a new man in ASAP and carry on with our main aim of promotion.

    Nice one Romulous Baggie :)
Im sick too of this blatant bias from this rag paper.
If Morrison does go it will be for a dam sight more than £2M, Kamara, Koumas were no-where near as good as Morrison so £6M+ I think would be a fairer price.
As for robinson, pah, for 500k I’ll take him there myself and I live in Newcastle, so its a good drive :) Let him go, he’s bloody rubbish, yes he’s proved himself in the premiership, we finished bottom, that says it all does’nt it.

It’s the close season lads, nothing much happening now the Mowbray defection is dying down. Papers have to be sold, wages have to be paid, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Robbo is in an impossible position, helped by his own naievity in talking to Radio 5 too openly. Morrison will only be sold if JP gets an offer of silly money, otherwise, he’s under contract and will play if chosen. I don’t think anyone will go until the new man has assessed them. Not even Robbo. As far as I can see, Jonno has behaved impeccably in all this furore. We may well have a better captain than we thought.

the e and s is really excelling itself with this anti-albion pap, maybe our players might want to go but under no circumstance and certinaly not under jp will they go the cheap, this really is poor journalism and the clown in question who wrote this doesnt know his history JP is a very tough negotiator see proof of Davis, kamara, koumas, mowbray and the best deal of all managing to get his money back on old glass toe ellington! Morrison is under contract as are all of our best players therefore if they want to go fine but clubs are gonna have to pay top whack and i reckon morrison 4.5 mill, koren 3.5 mill, greening 3 mill, brunt 5 mill, olsson 3.5 mill, robinson 10 quid, carson a fiver and luke moore 20 pence.

can understand what your saying about loyalty but these are modern footballers and loyalty doesnt always get there name on tv and more money in there wallets, what greening did 2 years ago was great when he signed a new contract even tho we didnt go up when other players where running, but the chances of other players doing that is very unlikely, hard to blame them when your at a club with no manager and no ambition to put in a shift in and get us back up, must seem like a lot of work when they can sit on the bench and get an odd game in the prem for a second rate team? i may be woung but thats my opinion on urs

REPLY-14,What i actually said was that i would want a refund on my season ticket if Boothryde was appointed.I am a WBA supporter through and through, but not an idiot. If JP got Boothryde in,it would mean he did’nt have the clubs wellfare at interest. Its no good backing a descision that would take the club back 4years.If this meant making a stand by (regretably) sending my season ticket back then so be it.I would not be the only one as i have been informed by many people.Don’t get me wrong it would kill me.Has i have been going for 37years through the good and bad times.

Looking at that headline….I wonder what ‘fresh Morrison’ tastes like? Or even ‘Megson eyes’ for that matter. Do Morrisons sell either? Are they on special offer. All eyes should be ‘two for the price of one’ shouldn’t they. I mean, what good is one eye, except for the average Wulfie? (Sorry Loffin Fowl, couldn’t resist that cheap jibe).
