Doyle mentor backs Wolves’ move
Tuesday 23rd June 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Kevin Doyle has been told he will “improve immensely” in joining Wolves – by the man who launched his international career.
The Premier League new boys have held talks with the Reading striker, who would cost a club-record £6.5million.
But they are braced for a battle to land the Republic of Ireland international with the Royals still expecting plenty of interest in him, although early indications suggest Bolton aren’t one of the potential suitors – as reported elsewhere.
One of Doyle’s mentors, Steve Staunton – who has been scouting for Wolves – believes Molineux would be the ideal place to continue his career under boss Mick McCarthy.
The former Republic of Ireland coach and Walsall assistant boss has placed his faith in the player before, he gave him his first cap in his first game in charge of the national team, a 3-0 win against Sweden in March 2006.
“Kevin is hardworking – he’ll run the channels, he’s got two good feet and can score goals with his right foot, left foot and his head. He’s not bad value for money at that price.
“He’s played in the Premier League before and he has quite a few caps now. He’s maturing as a person and as a player, so he’s only going to get better and better.
“In Mick, he’ll be going to a good manager as well because he will look after him. He’s a good age, he knows the league and he knows what it’s all about.
“We all know it’s going to be a tough season for Wolves as it will be for any team coming up from the Championship, but if you can get better quality players in, you’ve got a chance.
“The manager seems to be adding to the squad nicely now, which can only be good for Wolves.”
Another Kevin who has been linked with a move to Wolves – Newcastle midfielder Nolan – won’t be coming to Molineux.
Contrary to weekend reports, sources suggest Wolves have no interest in the former Bolton man, who is thought to be earning £50,000 a week.
Nolan’s representatives reckon their client is happy to stay at St James’ Park.

Shame about Nolan – but on that type of money he’s way out of our league.
£2.5m basic a year for a bog standard Premiership midfielder – god I wish I was half decent at football.

If this deal is not sorted in the next couple of days, he is likely to go to Everton. If it falls through, I believe we are going to have to look abroad for a striker, as there is not too much quality on these shores! On this subject, this is very much the same for the other positions that need reinforcing ie centre half and midfield!
Most of the possible names, will have established Premiership signs hovering around and the Blues – most pay better wages than us!
There is no way that Newcastle can have players like Nolan at £50,000 a week in the Championship. They will have to let players go to teams like Wolves and subsidise the wages. They will go down like leeds. Too many of the squad are on silly money that won’t be paid for by Prem teams. They will be more than happy to sit it out.
I pity them, what a mess.

we need to get doyle signed up come on stop messing around get him down to molinuex today pen to paper lol and not to botherd about nolan to be honest he aint that good he is highly over rated and for 50 grand a week no where near worth that and i like how he says the manager is adding to the squad nicely now haha how is that he has bought a 36 year old goalkeep and serbian international that might not be able to get a work permit yet and aint even signed doyle so how can u say that ? lol
Report abuse
I didn’t even know SS was scouting for Wolves ! As for Nolan being happy at Newcastle ????? ….
yeah of course he is, he’d much sooner be playing in the Championship, for a club with an uncertain future, offloading their ‘stars’ by shedload, than coming to a newly promoted side full of young hungry talent (capped internationals).

I would have spat my afternoon tea out in disgust had we signed Kevin Nolan.
As for the other Kevin; Doyle is the best we can get in the proven in the Prem with experience bracket, lets hope it comes off.
I think Doyle (or his agent) has been quite clever as now established Premiership clubs are also showing interest which will only increase his profile and his wages.
If he signs for us – great! as at present we can definately guarantee him first team football.
I am still disapointed of the lack of signings this year but believe MM is working hard behind the scenes to bring experienced quality in.
Has anyone left the club? We should also be looking to off load some of the players that are not worthty of wearing the mighty Gold & Black – Top of the list is Collins who was not worthy in the Chumpionship.
Don’t want Nolan. Over-rated and on stupid money. What’s he done in his career?
£6.5 million seems a bit steep. I would rather take a gamble on Owen if we are paying silly money.
Everton are skint so don’t worry about them, they won’t afford him.
It’s those sneaky bluenoses that you need to look out for.
The word on the street (my mate Roy who has contacts) says MM threatened his resignation unless we started spending big. Next day we are linked with a £6.5 million striker. Come on Morgan / Moxey loosen the purse strings. Don’t miss the opportunity like last time.
This is the way of the Premier League transfer system ..and for now we are very small fry.
Agent establishes interest with club at Wolves ‘level’. Then proceeds to hawk him around at next level up e.g Everton, whilst at the same time creating a wage auction at Clubs at our perceived level e.g Blues.
That will continue to happen throughout the Summer. The great news is that we are in the ball park prepared to pay £6.5 m for a player… this shows we mean business this time around.
We will land some of our targets. Personally I’d forget Owen ..he’s more interested in developing his Horse Racing Stables..Football is now just a cash cow to help him with that
Report abuse
If the player has held contract talks been shown around etc,What is holding up the deal?.Is this just another Moxey stunt as the day Season tickets go on general sale OR a genuine attempt to lure talent to the Mol.With just over seven days before the squad return to pre-season training we must start making positive moves to make the team premiership quality.
You’re right 8. Everton like many a club have got to count the pennies.
Doyle is expensive at £6.5 million. That clause was put in during the halcyon days of Coppell and the Premiership.
He’d make a difference mind !
MM resign ? Shrewswolf mate Roy said so.
Yeah right, he told me he was helping Rolf Harris move in,
Here’s a thought…. Deitmar Hamman reckons he’s got two years left in the Premiership. Might be worth putting a towel on his sunlounger. Forget the goal he scored that cost KK his job, he might just do a Ince job for us. Right wages too. What’s Roy got to say about that ?
this will be a great signing if it happens, although everton are still after him!! although saying that people are telling him it will be a great move for him which may lead him to the WOLVES does anyone now what happened to that ronaldo zubar ?
the signing of Doyle is going to get away from us….I can smell it !!! Mark my words
word on the street is that Mr Doyle is not coming to Wolves, and is today being interviewed with Aston Villa
Report abuse
This will be a great signing for the club and some good news for us wolves fans.Maybe we are doing things right this time with spending big amounts on the best players we can bring down.
we are mentioning alot of players that we are after . i feel we need defenders, i think micheal manciene will come back on loan, and at least to sign sign one more defender for at the back.
someone alongside milijas will also be good!
does anyone know if we are sighing that Ronald Zubar.
May be we should be looking for a new manager and chief executive rather than new signing.
while we all agree Wolves need players with Premiership experience to survive next season, i say we also need an experienced manager and ceo.
mick was great in the championship, but what Premiership experience has he got, and moxey was part of the management failure last time we were there.
I would think it is essential for the owner to consider successful Premiership management, either to prop up mick and moxey, or to replace them altogether.
No one is going to agree with me, but remember last time we were there with the inexperienced Dave Jones, and the insipid management decisions under moxey. We all blamed the players, but they were not totally to blame.
12: Deitmar Hamman – couldnt agree more.
There are one or two out there with a good attitude and ability. Jari Littmanen (spelling) is another.
Dear Steve Morgan – it is now or never. Shell out, or get out of dodge. We want you to stay, but it aint going to be pretty if you dont invest.
Nolan would be a decent signing as we need a box to box midfielder with premiership quality so he ticks the right boxes. We should be outbidding blues over Barry Ferguson too,as he is the paul ince/alex rae type player we need in the prem,he has bags of international experience and has played against quality players in his time at rangers. We should sign them both and get Mancienne in too!!
Hey guys,
do you know when the decision on Milijas permit is due ?
12. I’ ll give Roy a ring but I think he ‘s at Rolfs’ house warming today.

16. Thats an amazing idea, because in every business where people do good jobs, they should get rewarded by getting sacked.Mick has done an excellent job for us in getting us to the premier, and hes also bought in some of the best young tallent, weve had in a long time. (kighlty, blake, foley, elokobi, jarvis) have some faith, at least mick knows what not to do in the premiership this time round, which is more than most.
Dont shhot the messanger again but Kevin Doyle is now in talks with Sunderland and Fulham. He will make a decision by end of next week.
Lisbeth Simpson – Dave Jones had battled well with Southampton in the Premiership until forced to step down. Not as experienced as some, granted – but no mug either. He just did not get the backing when he got his next chance.

to th idiot who says owen wud be a better buy than doyle. r u off ur head? owen is a washed up has been wiv only a stupid club like hull willing to risk it.
Also to th other idiot who says we shud sack our manager, u reali know nufin bout football, he won us th league that no other manager wud av dun & then u say we shud sack him? ur a complete idiot!!!!

9 and 14. Where is this street? Are you both homeless? Word on my street is that Mrs.Thompson has let her front garden go a bit.
The other teams in the hunt for Doyle are Sunderland, Bolton, Fulham, Everton and Villa according to the Reading Post. I think we’re going to have to try very hard if we are to get him. Come on Jez, pull the stops out for him.
Doyle will be a Wolves player by tommorow at the latest, mark my words. He’s already hinted the molineux is where he wants to be…
Report abuse
22. Bolton wanderers are also reported to be after him. apparently wolves have had an offer accepted for lower than the 6.5 release clause. So to all the people who think hes not worth 6.5 mill, we may not be paying that price. After all, reading failed to get promoted and are now looking to offload.
where do people get their information?
Kevin Doyle’s player profile is already on the website

no 16: idiot!!! why wud we wana sack our manager? no1 else cud hav got us in th prem

Laughingwolf, how does your secretary “insider mole double agent” get any work done as she seems to be continually feeding you stories?
I hope she’s remembered to make sure the milk bill has been paid. We don’t want a repeat of the Bhatti incident.
While we’re about it, does anyone know the milkman at Wolves? Maybe he has heard what’s going on with our transfers.
You never know, he might slip Jez an extra bottle of gold top for the latest gossip.
All we can all do is wait and see. If he is talking to Villa then chances are that’s where he will end up is my guess. I would like to think I’m wrong, but suspect I’m not! To get quality players we will have to spend or convince players to come on loan. We still need at least six more signings I think and Hull seem to have realised you have to spend.
We could still have a go for Frazer Campbell as I understand he has not made his mind up yet about HULL? :-)
Seems like we should forget Doyle now he is doing the circuit.
Lets face it he has seen all we have to offer and had the weekend to consider, as soon as he has looked at another club that should have been that.
Game over mate we don’t want you.
I agree with most of the comments, if he wants time to think about it we don’t want him.
All he is doing is fishing for ”bigger” clubs and if they don’t come he will come to Wolves.
Forget it pal, I for one don’t want YOU the more I think about it.
I just wonder if Willy McKay is Doyle’s agent…

i would seriously consider nolan even at 50 grand a week im sure hes willing to lower his wages a bit to play in a higher leaguee.. also 2 million thats a steall!!! and as for kevin doylee.. hes a good player.. runs alot.. alot like keogh in many ways but a far all round better player.. 6.5 million is a bit steep butt hey ho if it worksout id like to see whos complaining thenn!!
UP THE WOLVESS!!!

25. Don’t know about Mrs Thompson’s front garden -but the word on Roy’s street is that Mrs Jones at number 10 has had a brazilian.

according to the newspapers in reading fulham are now the favourites to sign doyle , looks like we’ve missed the boat again and i think the E&S have not helped by printing all the stuff about him being given a guided tour around the wolves.
no.29 what are you on about?
if we do get doyle then we only need 5 more players i think they should be
Tom Huddlestone MID
Michael Mancienne DEF
Colin Kazim-Richards STR/Mid
Dean Whitehead MID
Danny Shittu DEF
Report abuse
so if you got offered five different jobs you wouldnt consider each one and see which one was best for you.
hmmmm ding dong! i think you would
football players are human beings, if he wants to weigh up his options then fair enough. just hope he chooses wolves.
And to all the idiots saying JUST SIGN HIM AND STOP DELAYING
WE ARE NOT DELAYING, HE IS. WE CANT CHAIN HIM UP AND FORCE HIM TO SIGN!

Comment 35, You sure about Mrs Jones, I thought that her bush was trimmed?
Comment 36. Sorry mate your wrong, Doyle has just been spotted back at the Moli. My “mate” who isnt the receptionist’s brother but is infact a taxi driver just drove past the stadium whilst he was getting out…. DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER!

reading some of the above comments is better than watching some of the old carry on films , keep it up lads very funny!!. how does a blind man clean up after his guide dog??

I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME TIGHTWAD MOXEY STEPPED DOWN, MR MORGAN PLEASE START SPENDING THE MONEY AS PROMISED, THIS TIME LETS GET IT RIGHT, SPEND THE MONEY & GET MANCIENNE

glad about not getting Nolan, would be a complete waste of space! chuffed if we doyle tho!

i dont think we need a new defence, hopefully we should start the season with elekobi, berra, stearman and foley.

45.If Chelsea were gonna sell mancienne he would have been snapped up by now, I’m prettyu sure we would have enquired about this already anyway, lets hope stearman is having a word in his ear whilst in the euros, Fraizer Campbell anyone…doesn’t look likes he wants to go to Hull so someone else must be in for him.

Don’t knock MM. He got us there and with our support he will keep us there. Signings have become a lottery and no doubt MM and Jez are doing their very best

“£6.5 million seems a bit steep. I would rather take a gamble on Owen”
When was the last time you had £6.5 m to gamble???
Doyle would be a great signing, ticks all the right boxes, young with experience of the prem & a genuine goal scorer.
Thats why we are prepared to pay £6.5 M, thats what goals cost, you don’t think if clubs were all over us for SEB that he would be going anywhere for less than £8-9 M poss even £10 M.
If we do land Doyle it will be a real quality bit of biz.
Lets see it through Wolves, make it happen!!1
KTF
Wolves forever

I was just on Google Earth and spotted Doyle, Mancienne, Keane, Lescott, Torres and Bully getting into a black cab outside the Mol……I was sure those cabs are only licenced to carry five

Remember Owen is a free agent so it would only be his contract to negotiate. How much more experiance does one need?

Owen is a crock, he would spend most of the season in the treatment room….not worth the effort!

everyone should be patient regarding new players -have faith in Steve Morgan. Just watched S.Africa play Brasil -got a few guys who can play a bit -probably cheap and keen to play at top level ahead of the world cup next year.
