Villa are eyeing up a move for £7m-rated Atletico Madrid midfielder Jurado but appear to have missed out to Fiorentina in their attempts to sign Royston Drenthe from Real Madrid.

Martin O’Neill is ready to battle it out with Everton for the services of Sheffield United right-back Kyle Naughton.

Gareth Southgate will swoop for England Under-21 midfielder Craig Gardner if Villa poach £9million-rated David Wheater.

Villa are set to renew their interest in French centre-back Sylvain Distin who faces an uncertain future at Portsmouth.

WOLVES

Mick McCarthy has been alerted to the availability of Sunderland skipper Dean Whitehead.

Wolves have been linked with Hamburg’s out-of-contract Cameroon left-back Timothee Atouba, who is also wanted by Celtic.

BLUES

Blues have not given up in their pursuit of defender Roger Johnson, despite Cardiff refusing to lower their £5m valuation of the player.
