Netan Sansara has revealed he is torn between England and India after being asked to switch allegiances.

The Walsall left-back, who penned a new one-year deal on Monday, has been approached by the India Football Association to play for them.

Sansara, who was born in Darlaston but has Indian parents, has already played for England at under -18 and under-19 level and will discuss the request with his family.

“The Indian FA want me to play for them an full international level,” said the 19-year-old.

“I am in the England plans as well so it is a tough decision to make.

“I will discuss it with my family and see what I decide. But I need to do the business on the pitch for Walsall first and see what happens.”

The youngster made 11 appearances in his debut season last year but was left out of England Under-19s game with the Czech Republic at the Banks’s Stadium in March.

Coach Brian Eastick has said Sansara is behind Leicester’s Joe Mattock in the pecking order, a situation which may sway the Walsall man’s decision.

Becoming first choice left-back at the Banks’s would help his international ambitions and Sansara is determined to shine in pre-season.

The Saddlers return for the summer in two weeks and the former trainee is ready to impress boss Chris Hutchings.

“I want to go back for pre-season training and be fitter and stronger than ever,” he said.

“I want to be out at the front in all the running tests and I want to catch the manager’s eye.

“Then perhaps he will look at me and think “here’s a player who really wants it’. Then, if he gives me a chance, it will be up to me to take it.

“The pre-season games are a great opportunity for me to show what I can do and convince the manager that I can be trusted.”
