cricket-ball.jpgFour wickets from South African Sherwin Govender helped get Wednesbury back to winning ways against Cannock and Rugeley.

The all-rounder claimed 4-53 as Craig Cartwright’s side – fresh from two defeats and two abandonments in their previous four matches – picked up a five-wicket success.

Bal Matharu claimed 2-33 in his 15 overs, Pindi Matharu took 2-40 and 17-year-old spinner Tom Tonks 2-40 as C&R were dismissed for 201.

Abdul Salom (53 not out) and Neil Whistance (38 not out) then guided their team home.

Captain Cartwright said: “It was a win that was badly needed, because we had gone four weeks without one.

“The points were obviously pleasing, but even more important was the way we went out our cricket.

“We improved in all three disciplines and I was really pleased with the way we played.”
