Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Wolves target Dann opts for Blues
Friday 12th June 2009, 11:31AM BST.
Wolves have dramatically pulled out of their bid to sign Coventry defender Scott Dann after being gazumped by rivals Birmingham.

The Molineux club were all set to make Dann their first signing of the summer after agreeing a £3.5m deal to take the 22-year-old ex-Walsall defender.
But Blues responded at the 11th hour by coming back with an improved offer in personal terms for Dann which is understood to have added a staggering £6,000-a-week to the deal that Wolves had been prepared to put on the table.
Wolves declined to get involved in an auction for a player who, while not among the group of targets being hunted with Premier League experience, was on their list as the latest addition to the ‘young and hungry’ brigade.
Although Dann favoured a move to Molineux and underwent a medical yesterday as a prelude to the deal, the England Under-21 player felt he had received an offer he could not refuse.
That leaves the way clear for Blues to clinch the transfer today after some extraordinary twists in the story which included an angry response from manager Alex McLeish when he heard Wolves were close to hi-jacking the transfer.
Wolves sources are stressing Dann, who learned his football at Walsall before being sold to Coventry for an undisclosed deal 18 months ago, was not a priority.
And chief executive Jez Moxey remains optimistic that next week could see the first of the planned recruits for the Premier League survival bid arriving.
Three players are in the frame for that with Moxey chasing progress in the club’s £2.6m bid for the Serbian international Nenad Milijas.
There are hopes that the Red Star Belgrade captain will be over for talks and a look around the club’s facilities over the weekend.
Having been released by Reading, 36-year-old American Marcus Hahnemann is thought to be the experienced man manager Mick McCarthy wants to strengthen his goalkeeping department.
And Marc Antoine-Forune is set to announce his plans in the next few days.

And another ones gone, another ones gone, another one bites the dust yeh!!
Think we’d have a job convincing anyone Wolves are an ambitious club at the moment.. can’t even convince yourselves to part with a few extra quid.. rubbish!
Or.. money would be better spent on Mancienne, Huddlestone, Ledley, Milijas, Zigic and Derbyshire?
Nah.. they’ll probably go to Blues for an extra 4.50 an hour!
You really do have to question Moxey’s ability to close a deal and if he is out of his depth!
oh well go for the money dont want players like that anyway at least blues were his second choice
Report abuse
O well move on and forget. Im sure its all in hand! :D
If there isnt much to choose between the clubs apart from wages everyone would go to the club offering a better salary.
Just as I thought, its all about the money. I cant understand a player who favours one club but then leaves because another club offers more money. Does that mean He will play half heartedly for Blues?
Greedy, dont want him! got enough slow centre halves, need one with pace!
Blues opt for Wolves targets
Nothing is good enough compared to a Wolves offer; this means Dann would not have been good enough for Wolves.
Yeah – one day closer to our first signing – can’t wait
Report abuse
I’m glad we pulled out from signing (desperate) Dann. Straight away he’s just proved that he’s another fortune hunter and doesn’t really give a stuff about which team he plays for. Let’s hope he is having second thoughts when he’s playing in the Championship in 2010/11
Report abuse
We dont need him anyway, stears isnt in our first 11 at the moment, yet hes still in the under 21 squad. Whereas Dann isnt, so this suggests that stears is the better player. Id rather put the 3.5 mill and wages into buying someone who would improve what we have
Report abuse
Mixed feelings over this report. Really don’t think the player is in the calibre that wolves need. And I’m not sure if he is any better than we already have. So in that respect, glad to see him going to birmingham!
However it does show some intent by birmingham and that they are ready to battle it out with the big boys in terms of money. Whereas not sure wolves are!
“A staggering 6,000 a week” LOL.
Yes, very staggering. Maybe even flattening.
This sums Wolves up im afraid.
Your given £60million by the Premier League and you won’t even pay mere £6k extra a week.
Embaressing.
Unproven defender. Not too bothered to be honest.
Let him go down with the Brumz
Report abuse
Not the end of the world is it?
Hmm. Wonder why or how the £6,000 per week figure has been divulged? Particularly when the club are at pains to describe transfer fees as “undisclosed” (see Shackell and Berra as examples).
Has Moxey got a squeeky bum about the reaction to this one and pumped out some stats to appease?
The saddest thing about missing Dann was not buying him when we were toiling with D Ward and Breen as centre backs when this guy was down the road. Every Walsall fan said how great he was, yet we ignored.
Oh well. Bit worried about the ‘feel good factor’ rather than losing the player. It will feel like our glorious sunny promotion was a long time ago for some fans, which need not be the case.
Blues are a joke. The lad prefferred a move to a bigger club who won the league but blues bribe him with more 6k more than their original offer lol. No wonder they have such a turn-over of players they only go for the money, lay infront of half empty stadiums on a sunday league pitch whilst the police raid the stadium. Not really improving on what we got but would of been a good squad player, Milijas, Fortune, Zuluma and Hahnemman next. Blues are going down!
Clearly Money talks and it appears we are being pretty dumb at the moment, hopefully we will find our voice SOON!!!!!
hope he has no luck with his extra £6000 a week.
He did not fit the profile for ‘experienced premier league’. We have lots of young and hungry – now we need experienced and consistent. Blues will catch a cold with him. he’s not that good and very untested.
I think Butt would be a great asset. Very good attitude, disciplined and very tried and trusted. Might well be another ‘Ince’ for us.
I am sick of blues already. A pathetically lucky side to have been promoted and I hope they are relagtaed by Xmas.
No ambition. We seem to be linked with far too many players, but fail to cut the mustard in the final negotiations.I should imagine our first signing will be a 36 year old free transfer. How long before the panic sets in and we end up with rubbish. We have all been here before.
Take heart guys – he was not a number 1 objective and if nothing else, there is now an additional £6k week burden on the Blues payroll. In these economic times, that’s not exactly great for them.
If he really wanted to play for the Wolves, he would have signed (and who knows, he still might!).
Look dont panic we will be fine, who had ever heard of Kites,Foley or to a lesser extent Blake. Have trust Dann is not that good a player in any case.Any player who chooses Blues or Wolves clearly lacks ambition.Have trust
Report abuse
he was never a priority signing, the ones which are will be done very underhand. First one will be in, in less than 10 days
Report abuse
Good news
Blues waste more of their kitty and we have retained our spending power for first teamers not another CB reserve who is no better than Neil Collins.
Good work by the 3 Ms -
Now lets get a prem experienced player in – and pay what is required to tempt them to Mol.
pay the bloody money…..
If he was not a priority why offer 3.5 million?
Why wouldn’t a player take 6k extra – why is this being greedy when the choice is between 2 promoted clubs, surely it shows how much Blues want him?
More importantly this sends out a very bad message to other potential signings and mirrors 03/04 season when we continually missed out on targets.
Despite him being a decent defender who has progressed in the past few years, £3.5m (or £4m if you read the Daily Mail) is a lot of money for a player playing for a mid-table Championship side. Rate him as a £2m player at most until he has proven himself in the Prem.
Be interesting when Ridgewell returns because they are both left-sided centre backs, and I can’t say I would have much confidence in a Ridgewell/Dann partnership against Prem teams.
I don’t care though, I support Wolves…lol hopefully Fortune and Milijas will be singed up next week.
18 – how we going to afford butt if we cant afford dann’s wages
Report abuse
Sums up your modern-day footballer really – greedy, greedy, greedy. As for a “mere” £6k a week -as described by wolvesmod – that’s £312k a year – on top of what was probably £500k in the first place – how much did you earn when you were 22 ? Bearing in mind he hardly has Premiership experience, does he ? He may well go on to perform, but it’s an expensive risk.
perhaps Jez should actually go back on holiday – atleast then we knew nothing was happening rather than nothing happening due to lack of deal closing ability.
I really do like the Reading Keeper, but as first signings of the summer go its a bit low key isnt it?
As for Blues – i get the feeling they are sitting on a timebomb with the money they are splashing out. No real prem quality assurance on their signings and they are spending alot.
One year from now, we might be looking at some real financial problems at St Andrews.
On the other hand, we could be in the Championship while they are sitting pretty inthe prem. And that would be sad.
Lets just sign some quality. I really dont think Butt is any sort of answer. Let me emphasize, he himself has said he had lost his motivation for the game.
Same old same old wolves broken promises when we get promoted just like last time . Top and bottom of it is we dont wanna pay the wages!!!!!
Do you really want the wolves to go the same way as other foolish clubs who pay over the odds for players and then end up in league 1 and bordering on administration. Dann would have been a good signing because he fitted in to the ‘young and hungry’ mould that the clubs blue print warrants but his greed ruled his head in the long run. The doom and gloom is bordering on pandemic proportions on these boards and there really is no need to panic. It’s the 12th june for christ’s sake give the 3 M’s credit for doing thier business behind closed doors and getting the best possible deal for OUR club…mark my words we will not be dissapointed when the signings do come rolling through the doors!
As Gary Barlow once wrote….Have a little patience!
He’s unproven, if he favors Small Heath then good riddance!
Would rather have Mancienne.
it is totaly irelevant whether dann was any good or not. the fact is we wanted him and got blown away by blues, they mean business and we don’t!
nothing has changed since the last time and being linked with the likes of fortune is a joke, he couldn’t score goals last season, so why would he this season.
I can’t believe that we’ve been gazumped by Blues. Clearly McCarthy wanted Dann and Blues have gone the extra mile to get him while we dither. I hope that I’m proven wrong but this is starting to look like the last time we went up and were not prepared to go the extra mile with wages. As I say I hope I’m wrong but personally I’m now beginning to get very frustrated. We were supposed to have a head start on the likes of Blues and still we sign no one whilst they continue to improve their squad. At this rate Burnley will sign a player before us! If we wont pay extra wages for the likes of Dann just who are we going to attract to the club?! Over to you Moxey and Morgan!
Unproven! Gone to 2nd choice for money!
Blessing in disguise I say :-)
scott dann maybe unproven but you wont be signing any proven premier players except for journey men. get real.
Tell you what, lets offer everyone 35k a week, get relegated and have loads of debt. Fall down to league one like Leeds. Anyone fancy that???
We offered him what he deserved a week. We have a valuation and Blues have a higher valuation. Simple. I would rather the board manage the club as a going concern than end up in administration.
Maybe he isn’t worth an extra 6k a week. I want a club to support for life not the next 5 years!
We desperately need experience yet with quality and the legs. Nolan (4m) seems to fit the bill, Manciennce (4.5m) is quality and young.Hannemann is a good squad back-up player with Matt Murray looking at the last chance saloon. C’mon Morgan kick ass..
He’s untested and behind Stears in the U21 pecking order. Why break the wage structure for him? Let him go!
Blues had better stay up this time as it will be a Southampton style return to the fizzy-pop league for them with the reckless wage bill they’re building up this time!!
an extra £6k a week is only about £300k a year. The top players in Premier League earn £300k in a fortnight. The lack of ambition is pretty staggering at the moment.
Huddlestone would have been a great buy at £6m … hope we put in some real bids for Ledley, Mancienne, Duff etc. We are not in the Championship anymore!!!
I do have faith, but waiting to see some kind of show of our intent – if we are going to survive we need QUALITY players, and they are not going to come cheap this year!! Only positive is Dann is prob no better than Berra or Stearman anyway.
I think you Wolves fans are getting rather sour. Before the season, I would have said you had the best chance of staying up out of the three promoted teams. But since then, we have (unexpectedly) spent £11 million on two top notch players, and are linked with plenty more. I used to like Wolves, but with the lack of ambition you’ve shown and the horrible attitude of your fans, I hope you do worse than Derby.
If we cant get dan we have no chance of geting manc.
to be honest not that bothered we lost out on this one, we need prem experience… and we have stearman who at least made it into england u21..! i think wolves just put a bid in to annoy the blues!!!
wish people would stop worrying about transfers.. its still really early… most will not happen till players come back from there summer holidays!
come on you wolves!
We move on. Hopefully we will be able to sign some quality soon. MAF from the tesco’s would be a good move. Ledley would be another. Mancienne, Duff definitely. The Blues are welcome to Dann – Money obviously is where he is at!!
I’m glad he is not coming to Wolves..
Gotta agree with Rowley, starting to get that sinking feelng now!!!!!!
If we can’t get a player from Coventry then who can we get.
Considering Blues weren’t meant to have any money, they seem to be doing quite well, currently £12-13M spent where as us, oh yes Foley and Henry have extended there contracts.
Woopy doo!!!!!
This is getting a joke now. We are losing out to most likely our biggest rivals next year to stop up. We are competing with them for players as that is our level at the moment and were losing, if there picking blues over us then we have no choice if there is a battle with say, sunderland, wigan, hull etc. We’ll end up with seconds and then hoping they turn out good! Joke
Report abuse
Where are the quotes in this? how do we know that Dann favoured a move to the Wolves?? how do we know that this was an offer that he couldn’t refuse?
Of course the Express and Star believe that Wolves can do no wrong, and every player in the world would love to sign for them.
I’m not fussed that we missed out on him would rather make extra effort to get mancienne and anyhow we have collins!!! How have u guys forgotten about him I don’t know???? he still as 3 years left on his deal
Report abuse
Hope the Derbyshire talk is not hollow just the sort we need a poacher and could be the sort of partner that Sylvan needs. Fortune descent hold up player but we will need goals and do not want to rely heavily on 1 man, also with running the risk of injury. This is not going to be cheap or easy but as long as Moxey is pro-active we should get 3 or 4 quality additions….
worrying lack of ambition here !
blues are basically signing everyone we are supposed to
moxey just doesnt seem to beable to neg. wages here and i think that the problem !!!
having said that – we dont need much more youth so its not a massive loss
we need premiership experience !!
kevin nolan, 26, is rumoured to be wanted by hull for 2.5m – surely this is EXACTLY the sort of player we want – what do you lot reckon ?
He is an average player. He will never be a top premiership player. Too slow. I think the club is making the correct call. I would rather see us buy two or three complete unknowns with raw talent and see one come good as opposed to spending that sort of money on a player who is no where near a Lescott.
very relieved, did not need this guy, why get involved in a personal terms auction for someone who was going to be brought in as back up ?. more fool blues if you ask me, we already have better quality in stears. the signing will come , have patience
Report abuse
at the end of the day he not even in the england under 21 sqaud steaman is i think wolves where right not to get involved in an aution we will see who laughing when he playing back in the fizzy pop learge with the boggies wolves like to play football birmingham dont
Report abuse
Surely the main issue is that Wolves could have had him 18 months ago for £750k, They watched him enough! It’s sour grapes to say they pulled out of the deal when it was obvious that he was on his way to Blues anyway and it’s even worse suggesting he isn’t good enough just because you didn’t get him. Look what happened to Lescott when he joined a bigger and better club. The same will happen to Dann.
Fools and their money are soon parted. Ask Middlesborough, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Southampton, Charlton, I could go on.
Agents are putting players in front of Wolves on a daily basis.Especially when the club decides a player can move.
We need to sort the wheat from the chaff and put a price against each player and their skill set. Then if the price goes higher than the expectation walk away.
I think we have a few targets that we will pay good money for but they must match the experience tag.
I would argue that Moxey was green around the gills first time round (Camera), but its his experience that tells him when to walk away.
Steve Morgan is also no mug. Its like waiting for Christmas every day at the moment.
Chin up guys they will come. Remember we need good players but we need to find some players for a certain section of Wolves fans to boo each week.
Wolves have several targets but bigger clubs also need players to be booed and we may loose out. Worse case scenario we will have to look to the lower divisions for an up and coming scape goat
Report abuse
Not really bothered TBH.
It surprised me a bit when we were linked with him as he fits into the ‘young and hungry’ as opposed to the top priority ‘senior league experience’.
I don’t think it shows a lack of ambition in not continuing in a wage auction either.
We already have Stears, who IS currently with the U21′s, whereas the Blues are desperate for any Centre Back signing at the moment.
I’d rather keep the cash for one of the ‘priority’ signings.
For a few posters above who seemed to have missed the point, it states £6k EXTRA a week – over £300000 extra a year to what we offered.
‘As for a “mere” £6k a week -as described by wolvesmod – that’s £312k a year – on top of what was probably £500k in the first place – how much did you earn when you were 22 ?’
Have you forgot that we’re now in the PREMIER LEAGUE or are you still living in the CHAMPIONSHIP world?
11 – Not as embarrassing as spelling embarrassing like that!
It seems to me Blues have more money than sense offering another 6 grand a week but that’s their business. If they want to pay over the odds and a player says he cannot refuse then they should bond well together, there are plenty more fish in the sea!
As for us, we will sniff out a bargain or 2 I am sure and hopefully players who want to wear the Wolves shirt and not how much money they can stuff in their back pockets!
Look at it another way, if we give someone without prem experience and at the same level as say Stearman too much money that will unrest the likes of Kitely, SEB, Stearman, Foley and the rest of the squad will it not?
These guys are a lot better and have achieved a lot more than desperate Dann so this would have been a bad decision to pay him over the odds.
Prem players & internationals (like Mancienne, Huddlestone, Milijas etc) will be able to get paid more and it will be accepted by our current players.
It’s Blues that are bottling this hunt for players not us. We are playing it cool. ANYONE can pay over the odds for players.
I just get a feeling that when the transfer window moves on, the demands of players like Dann will be less demanding otherwise they’ll end up back in the Championship without a deal. And Blues will find they have played all their cards.
Good work Jez and Mick.
26. Dazman is this the same Fortune that wolves fans where say was useless and could not score for toffee lol.
seriously with the signings just get used to it any new promoted always struggle to sign players you end up signing players that no-one had heard of (fortune for example) thats when its down to the scouting system to try to pick up the little gems that other teams have overlooked.
Razor 28.. I dont blame anyone for wanting more money if you where offered more money you would not decline saying its not right, But I do agree that footballers are payed way to much ronaldo being a prime example rumoured to be 500k per week thats just obscene at any time let alone under the current financial crisis but until some sort of wage capping comes in thats the way it goes
Report abuse
I think it was a sensible decision !an additional £6k per week is £312,000 per year ! Small beer, in relation to premiership wages. Obviously he did not want to play for us and sold himself to the bluenoses for £312,000 !
He will do well for them next year in the Championship !
Lets get some experience in !
What is it with the players we’re being linked with?? At the start of May we were dreaming of players like mancienne, huddlestone, sean davis etc, now we’ve come crashing back to earth with players like marcus hahnemann, who for most of the latter part of the season was replaced by Federici. scott Dann?? why?? marc Antoine Fortune…dear god is someone having me on.
It seems these are the players we’ve set our sights on due to lack of ambition. Does Fortune fall into premier experience? i know the yank keeper does but seriously..
I remember when MM was sunderland manager back in 2005 and he wanted Kenny Miller from us to spearhead his attack but wouldn’t stump up the cash, not the most ambitious of signings, although he puts a shift in, didn’t get the goals for celtic or derby. That’s the type of player mccarthy looks for. He’ll point to lack of funds on that occasion, well this time around if you believe Moxey a month ago,MM has that in abundance (we won’t do an Albion was the cry.)prove it then.
I do hope he comes up with some crackers to join his remarkable if not lucky signing’s ebanks blake, kightly, foley, jarvis etc and not some stinkers to join some of his mistakes darren ward, potter, elliott, breen.
Wolves fans need to understand. It’s not that wolves couldn’t afford his wages. They just didn’t think he was worth it. Don’t blame them! If you are spending that much money on transfer fees and wages, you want a player that is better than you already have and aplayer who is tried and tested in the prem. Dann is neither of these things.
No. 33 ..you hit the nail on the head there..
If we didn’t want him, why offer 3.5 mill.
Moxey is a complete joke …
Report abuse
If I was a blues fan I would question his committment as he has clearly gone for the money.
Dann would have cost £2m in January, 6 months later he is worth twice that. Let Blues waste their money. We’ve still got the money to spend elsewhere.
Have to say there is some right muppets on this site, blues have spent over 10 mil on 2 untested prem players with silly wages which is a big gamble, the people slagging off moxey and the club need to buy a ticket and go the games rather than slagging of the people who run the club that won promotion with a top young team
Report abuse
Why are you being critical of the club – he is a money grabber! We want players who want to play for Wolves!!!
I agree with Loyal Cannock Wolf for once – a lot of money for an unproven player. Pay the money for Mancienne Jez, it will be well worth it. £7-£8m should do it.
no we havent got beaten by blues at all , they are paying there way to get players that we want . . .
i firmly belive that if mccarhty hadnt wanted to sign dann then brum wouldnt have pursued him . .
they have offered him 6’000 more than wolves were at the end of the day , i would only offer him 6’000 wages not 6’000 more . . .
The wing backs are okay, but another central defender is required. Here’s a suggestion, up for sale with Prem experience is Andre Bikey at Reading. May be slightly nuts but a surprisingly good footballer and shouldn’t be too expensive.
Think of it like this:
Blues were going to sign him
Wolves hijacked their bid
Blues upped their offer
Now they’ve got £6,000 less a week (or £312K a year, Thanks Razor) to spend.
Good business on Wolves’s part. Now one of their competitors has signed an unproven, average player for more than they should of, weakening their resources without really adding any quality.
It’s more likely that MM & JM see that there are better, proven players around if you are prepared to pay that sort of wage to a defender. Keep the faith.
3 things irritate me about this…
1) The guy isn’t worthy of a Gold shirt as he obviously only wants the money. He’d rather play for a lesser club but earn more.
2) However, remaining on the subject of money. The claub (Moxey) said we’d break our pay structure and increase salaries to ensure we get the players we wanted this time round. We wouldn’t do an Albion… and… We learned our lesons the last time and won’t make the same mistakes. These were some of the quotes to come from the club only a month ago.
3) Can Moxey actually hack being a Premier league CEO? Does he have what it takes to close a deal? And is he willing to part with the cash that has been promised since promotion was assured 2 months ago!?!!!
31 3M’s doing their business behind closed doors???? WHAT BUSINESS????There ain’t any.2 Months in and not ONE player has agreed to join!!!Same old propergander from the Mol, keep the punters happy with rubbish. The first one will set the tone for the rest. OTHER CLUBS CAST OFF’s.

33 – it’s true that Wolves have the stupidest fans in the league, you’re proof of that.
You think it’s irrelevant we haven’t signed someone who’s not good enough to play in the premier league do you?
So you’d be happy if we bought a load of toss just so we’ve got some extra players in? You fool.
Just because Jez isn’t in the papers every day discussing players doesn’t mean he’s not trying hard to buy.
Get behind the club and stop moaning you tool.

Panic buying from Birmingham. They know their squad is too old and they need lots of new young players.

Phew! A close shave. I am glad he didn’t come. He’s no better than what we’ve got. Plus, we need an experienced centre back not another promising kid.
Glad we are taking it slow and not impuslse buying. Blues are splashing the cash, but none of them have premier experience and the striker in particular has video signing written all over him. I’d rather we got Duff and Butt!

wolves/mod/moron – shut up so does everyon on here think that this lad is really worth 12k – 16k per week? as the artical says he was only addition to our squad more of a future signing than a starting player…some wolves fans make me sick the negativity is untrue

Some of you have clearly lost the plot. How many of you would have paid £3.5 m last year before we signed Berra. Most of us have no nothing of him. WOLVES ARE GOING UP – BCFC is Debt free and have always been prudent in transfer dealings how you can see them being in financial meltdown after signing Christian Benitez for 9 million and Dann for 4 million is beyond me
LAUGHING WOLF- how bitter are you, grow up young man
Dazman – you are right to only care about Wolves , i know if BCFC have to rely on a Ridgewell/ Dann partnership it will still be better than the Berra/Craddock partnership
Don’t be fooled that he was not a ‘priority’ he would have played a lot of games next season

with a bit of luck marlon harwood is of to middlesborough or we would have wasted 2mill on that donkey. must admit getting a little frustrated at lack of movement, dann aint worth the price or wage small heath are willing to pay

i have no problem with that not worth 4 m much sooner pay 5/6m on mancienne much better player. but will be worried if we do not spend the 20m morgan owe us from when he took over, we need players with some prem experience.
Baggies spent £21 million last year on transfers and went back down. ‘Nough said Brum?
They need him more than us that’s all, cause all their backs are old and so are prepared to pay too much. Jez is right. Pay the going rate for the right players – not over the odds for ordinary ones. And Butt is not the right player. We already have enough players who give the ball away without adding another.
I have spoken to jez today at 12-30 he was in boots at bently bridge i told him he didn,t have time for shopping he laughed and said he was working very hard and he had an appointment at wolves at 1-30.I hope it,s about signing someone.

Scott who?
Lucky escape, if the boy is to show such lack of commitment and arrogance in jumping ship on a seemingly done deal at the nth hour for a bag of cash we’re best to steer well clear..
We don’t need his type or calibre, we have better.

To those that say Dann is no better than Stearman let’s face it we were prepared to pay £3.5 million for Dann. Clearly McCarthy wanted him and rated him if he was going to pay that sort of money but we’ve been gazumped by Blues. Whats happened to the Serbian player? Why hasn’t he signed yet? Should we expect to see him sign for Birmingham in the next few days along with Fortune because we don’t appear to go the extra mile?
Gazumped by the mighty B L U E S there’s ambition for you.

Its Scott Dann! We have a better player with more experience in Stearman. Brady’s proved once and for all that Bham city are a bunch of mugs! That much on a player with around 50 appearances at Championship level for an abysmal side!

Some of you wolves fans are pathetic! You should hear yourselves. Talk of supporting Birmingham because they have more ambition, we’re a joke of a premier league team. Are Birmingham really ambitious or just splashing the cash on just anyone. Spending money doesn’t make you ambitious, signing quality players makes you ambitious.
If wolves had of bought the two players birmingham have for the money brum have spent you wolves fans would still be moaning. 3.5mil plus astronomical wages on a player no better than stearman. and 9mil on a player that argubly isn’t as proven as ebanks blake. they have similar goal scoring records in similar quality of leagues. How ever ebanks blake is English and more used to the english style of play. I know out the two strikers which one I would prefer!

Moxey was right – `We won`t do an Albion`
Spot on Jez, we won`t get anywhere near 32 points, we won`t entertain wherever we go, we won`t have the media talking favourably about us and we won`t be applauded off the pitch at the end of the season.
I`d keep stum in future until you`ve assembled a squad that can do us proud.

Blues are simply showing a bit of ambition but I tell you now there is no way they will suffer any financial meltdown, not with Sully & Gold in charge – Blues are the only debt free club in the Premier League.
Players will choose Blues over Wolves because we have more Premier League pedigree than you and we will pay more than you – Wolves highest paid player is on 10k a week!!!
Get over yourselves Wolves, you have been left behind by the likes of Blues, Wigan, Fulham, Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn, Sunderland and the rest in terms of ambition, and you know it’s true :D

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I READ, AND HEARD AROUND TOWN, THE WORDS ‘WOLVES NEED PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS EXPERIENCE TO BACK UP A VERY GOOD CHAMPIONSHIP SQUAD’ AND IT HAD BEEN MY UNDERSTANDING WITH A FAIR SWAG OF CASH PROVIDED BY THE OWNER AND THE LEAGUE, MICK AND MOXEY WERE TO ENTER THE MARKET PLACE AND DO JUST THAT.
ITS CLEAR TO ME THAT MICK IS NOT UP TO THE JOB, MOXEY IS PETRIFIED HE WILL MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES OF A FEW YEARS BACK, AND WE HAVE IN THE MARKET PLACE ‘DUMB AND DUMBER’ REPRESENTING WOLVES ALLOWING THE LIKES OF BIRMINGHAM TO MAKE US LOOK SECOND RATE.
MAKE NO MISTAKE, THE FACT THAT WE HAVE NOT SECURED SIGNIFICANT SIGNINGS FOR NEXT SEASON BY NOW, IS A REAL WORRY, AND UNLESS SOMETHING HAPPENS NOW, WE WILL BE LEFT WITH THE DREGS AND THE FREE TRANSFERS THAT NO ONE ELSE WOULD ENTERTAIN.
AS WE ALL KNOW WOLVES TRAVEL TO AUSTRALIA ON SOME SORT OF JUNKET, SO, THE SUN BURNT COUNTRY MAY BE OUR SECRET WEAPON AND WE WILL BE PICKING UP PLAYERS FROM THERE, BECAUSE YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE, THEY WON’T HAVE BIRMINGHAM SPOILING THE PARTY WITH A COLLECTION OF 3RD RATE AUSSIES SIGNED AND SEALED FOR THE PREMIERSHIP.
MAY BE GOD WILL SMILE ON US AND ALLOW MICK TO FIND SOME AUSSIE PLAYERS WITH SKILLS SIMILAR TO CAHILL, LUCAS NEIL, EMERTON, KEWELL AND SWARTZER……IN YOUR DREAMS !!!

93. Grow up? BCFC are a little club with small attendances, your CEO slates your Manager in her column every week in the Sun newspapaer, your pitch is awful, you have a massive turn-over of players and you were Scott Dann’s second choice but just offered a guy who has never been higher than a mid-table championship side 6k more a week! Good in the air terribly slow. Your old squad will finish bottom next season. Benitez 9mil and apparently your manager had only seen him on DVDS!

The comments posted on here are laughable. Everyone really does need to calm down a bit. Dann is no better than what we already have, and I certainly wouldn’t be paying over the odds for somebody who is NOT a priority.
Really the time to judge how the transfer window has gone is at the end of it. To judge our management team on rumours and gossip is frankly rediculous.
Enjoy the speculation and gossip by all means, but don’t get so wrapped up in it, that every bit of tittle tattle becomes fact, and ultimately a stick to beat Moxey with when it turns out to be nothing but lies.

Cov fans are all saying it is a fantastic deal and keep referring to him against chelsea getting embarressed by pace. They have said he is a half decent centre half in the championship but not good enough for the prem, obviously mick thought he could improve him.
He has gone for 4 million according to sky this is a bad sign in the way we quickly lost out I remember the summer of 2003 when Harry Redknapp (at the time with Pompey) hijacked our target midfielder Amdy Faye from Auxerre at the time, then there was the agent who threw a spanner in the works of a transfer for the now Marseille Cameroon midfielder Modeste M’Bami, some would call me panicking fool but the signs aren’t good. Some are criticising in disappointment of missing out on Scott Dann. David Gold of Birmingham was quoted to saying there won’t be no money at the end of the season, 10 million has already being spent on two players now, even if they go down with us I want to say my club gave it a go like the Albion fans can claim with over 20 million pounds spent, how much will Wolves spend 6 just last time? Even with the issue of wages at least pay what you can from 30 million TV money and 20 million of Steve Morgan’s investment, but will they are they more interested in the stadium at this point or is it simply the ‘penny pinching’ culture coming back to haunt us again. Mick should be angry very angry if doesn’t get backing this time around, he had to wheel and deal last season, come on wolves give a go. Call it moaning if want but I can see the same summer problems of 2003 coming back and this squad has no experience in a Paul Ince or Dennis Irwin and some areas of the team less quality, arguable, most people will view at but that’s how I see it.
Think it was Mark Hughes who said as a result of the Ronaldo transfer there will be an aweful lot of money swilling around and prices will only go up.This means your average £4m player will now cost £6m plus, plus, plus.

If he was that serious about wolves then the 6k would make little difference, i’m guessting the figures were say wolves around 15k and blues 20k. he’s in it for the money then hopefully he’ll be going down again next year and stuck in the championship
best save our money for some decent proven young players.

As someone has rightly pointed out above, Dann is below Stearman in the England U21 pecking order, and by quite a way I think. So why are people so bothered about this?! And why are Wolves fans bothered about this Benitez guy at the Blue Noses, the guy is a nobody!? Milijas has been international standard for a few yrs now. The Blues can have as many untested U21′s and nobodies they like, especially for a combined price fo £13m!!hahaha

Didn’t need him, unproven at this level, not as good as Stearman, wouldn’t get in the team and too expensive.Hope he enjoys next year in the championship. He will have to take a wage cut next season anyway.

For God’s sake have a bit of patience, it’s only June.
GBsPremier Yead is quite right, what sort of message does it send to our current young players (You know the ones that won The Championship last season) when some guy from a mid table side (who we finished 36 points in front of) waltzes in a demands that kind of money.
Leave it to The 3Ms, they will deliver.
I for one am glad we won’t be held to ransom by some kid who’s only motivation is money.

The most obvious thing about this Message Board is that some of you will have a pop at MMM no matter what has happened.
If we’d signed this guy, there’d be dozens of messages complaining that he isn’t good enough, that he’s over-priced, that his wages will unsettle our current best players…
Instead there are dozens of messages complaining that we haven’t bust the bank for a player who has _no_ Premiership experience.

If Dann wasnt a priority why did we bother going in for him only to be outdone by Blues???
Imv it proves that we missed out on both Dann and Fox from Walsall (that is when these players should have been brought in)- 2 players I would have liked instead of D Ward etc
I have said it again and again – Moxey is simply not good enough at this level – out of his depth; and the simple “parlour tricks” that can pursuade lower league players will not be good enough – we need an experienced CEO who has more savvy and experience – beyond Moxeys basic accountancy mentality
Im not advocating spend spend spend – BUT going too far in the opposite direction is just as dangerous
Yet another player we tried for gone – and for those who are bleating that “if he didnt want to come and its only for the money” WTF do you think players come to clubs in the Prem for – the shirt???
Kissing badges and loyalty is a long time dead dream – Us fans might feel passion for our respective clubs BUT most players couldnt give a flying fig as the old expression goes “the king is dead; long live the king”
Whats next? How we missed out on signing player x, y and z?
Ah yes the yank keeper from Reading – the answer to all our prayers – NOT
Report abuse
I think he would be a good signing for Blues, but not such a good one for us. We should have signed him instead of Shackle (retrospect being a wonderful thing!), but we’ve moved on since then.
Mancienne is the Man, if you are after this kind of player.. But what we really need is premiership savvy to go with our young guns. Blues have an old squad who really need some young guns to come in. The thing is they are having to pay over the odds for that.
Yes, I’m disappointed because we looked in pole position earlier this afternoon, but at this stage of the clubs long term development, I’m not too bothered.. Much more gutted we diddn’t get Hyppia!!
Dont panic, we will come good, still early days yet, plenty of time to sign the right sort of players. We need players with proven Prem quality, this takes time, and can be a very difficult process, Wolves are, im sure, working behind scenes, to do exactly that. If we intended to offer £3.5M for a championship player, who is unproven at Prem level, then i think that shows our intent, so it stands to reason that we will spend big, when the time is right. The worst possible scenario is to panic buy and get the sort of players who are after a last pay day, ie Butt and co etc.
One last word to all Wolves fans PATIENCE…

Our young lads would probably accept a proven experienced Premiership player on higher wages than themselves – but I doubt if they would be happy with a young unproven player earning more than them. That would open a can of worms. We need to keep equilibrium in the dressing room – and this needs to be taken into account when looking at the likes of Dann.
