Airport figures show fall
Friday 12th June 2009, 10:43AM BST.
Passenger numbers at Birmingham International Airport have dropped by 5.2 per cent, new figures reveal.
Bosses at the airport admit that the credit crunch has hit hard and predicted there were still tough times ahead.
During May, the airport saw 831,738 travellers through its two terminals, with 611,780 scheduled passengers and 219,958 charter passengers.
The new figures are measured against figures for May 2008.
Paul Kehoe, airport chief executive officer, said: “May’s figures, which represent a 5.2 per cent fall, should come as no surprise as the industry continues to face uncertain times, given the current economic clim-ate.”
