Wolves welcome back Bahutule
Thursday 11th June 2009, 7:00AM BST.
Wolverhampton are finally set to welcome back overseas star Sairaj Bahutule in time for the clash with Barnt Green.
The former India Test player is due to jet into England to start his second stint with Simon Lycett’s side on Saturday.
The 36-year-old starred for the Danecourt outfit last summer, taking 50 wickets at an average of 15 and scoring more than 400 runs in the lower-middle-order.
Lycett is hoping that Bahutule, who deputised for Anil Kumble in two Tests in 2000, can have a similar impact this summer.
The captain said: “He is an experienced cricketer who has played in England for a few years now and did really well for us last year.
“He knows most of us very well so settling in should not be a problem for us.
“He is a very competent bowler in all conditions, as he showed last year, so he should do well for us even if the weather stays damp.”
Lycett praised his fourth-placed side for coping well with the weeks before Bahutule’s arrival.
But he still expects the leg-spinning all-rounder to add a different dimension to the team.
The skipper said: “I am very pleased with the way we’ve gone and with the hard work all of the players have put in.
“We have picked up three good wins already and by this stage in the season we would have taken that, the position we have gone to in the table.
“But Sairaj is an excellent cricketer, as he showed last year, and he offers a lot with both bat and ball.
“So there is no doubt that he will add something different to our team.”
Lycett is warning his side not to take Barnt Green lightly in spite of recent results.
He said: “They are undoubtedly going to provide a tough game for us.”
