Released Kidderminster striker Justin Richards has finally severed his ties with the club after signing for Cheltenham.

The 28-year-old is today celebrating his big chance back in the Football League after rubber-stamping his move to the League Two club, who are back in the bottom tier after relegation last season.

Richards left Aggborough this summer despite a prolific season, with 21 goals to his name as part of the most potent strike partnership in the Blue Square Premier with Matthew Barnes-Homer.

Financial difficulties were cited as the reason why he was let go, with the player himself admitting last week that he “would never close the door” on a return.

It was even suggested that he could sign for Harriers later in the summer if there was more money available.

That will definitely not happen now, with Richards back in the big time after unsuccessful earlier spells with Albion, Bristol Rovers, Colchester and Peterborough.

Cheltenham boss Martin Allen knows he has taken a gamble, but sees enough in his new addition to believe he is worth the risk.

The manager said: “I wanted someone that wanted to prove something, to come up and be excited by the challenge – not coming down, turning his nose up at coming.

“I wanted somebody that I think has got something to prove to himself.”
