No offer to Sheldon claim Harriers
Monday 8th June 2009, 8:45AM BST.
Kidderminster have refuted claims that former Aggborough striker Gareth Sheldon was offered the chance to return to the club for next season.
The 29-year-old has surprisingly signed a one-year contract at Kings Lynn, newly relegated to the Unibond League Premier Division.
Upon unveiling his new capture, new Linnets boss and former Albion striker Carl Heggs reckoned that Sheldon had turned down a new deal at his last club Tamworth and an offer from Harriers to sign at the Walks.
He is certainly hot property at the moment, having plundered 23 goals for the Blue Square North club last season as the Lambs won the title.
And Harriers are set to be left short in attacking options, with Stefan Moore set to turn down the offer of a new deal and released forward Justin Richards interesting Mansfield.
But Harriers assistant boss Neil Howarth is adamant Sheldon was not offered any deal, but admitted he had spoken to the player.
He said: “It is 100 per cent not true, there was no offer made to Gareth at all. He did phone me, I think he was on holiday at the time, just to say he was available but that was far as it went.
“I know him well, but it was never going to go beyond a phone call to be quite honest.
“I will have to tell the manager that one.”
