A month of rain in one weekend
Monday 8th June 2009, 11:29AM BST.
Almost a month’s worth of rain fell across the West Midlands at the weekend – forcing organisers to cancel a number of events.
Fields and venues destined to host fetes and carnivals were swamped under 1.5 inches of water following the heavy downpours, while the rain caused problems on the roads and left some homes flooded.
Forecasters say the rain is set to continue for the next few days.
Express & Star weatherman John Warner said: “There was about 1.5 inches of rainfall over the weekend. It is the amount you would expect to fall in around 25 days in June.
“The average temperature in June is around 18C (64F) but over the weekend the temperature was 13C (55F).”
Mr Warner predicts temperatures are set to reach around 17C (63F) today, with more rain due tonight.
Temperatures will again drop to 13C (55F) tomorrow (tue) while going back up to 17C (63)F on Wednesday.
The rain will return on Wednesday night and continue into Thursday morning.
On Friday, temperatures are set to rise to 20C (68F).
Mr Warner added: “The week should finish off with a nice warm day with long sunny spells.”
