Yates could look at released stars

KIDDY 26 DH 5Kidderminster manager Mark Yates admits he could look again at the players he released this summer when he gets the final word on his transfer budget.

Harriers have let go 10 stars of last season’s play-off chasing squad and are yet to replace anybody, leaving just three players on the books at Aggborough.

But only Mark Creighton, Andy Ferrell, Keith Lowe and Luke Jones have so far found clubs for next season.

Goalkeeper Adam Bartlett, prolific striker Justin Richards, Michael Carr, Martin Brittain, Chris McPhee and Craig Armstrong remain unattached and facing uncertain futures.

Not all will necessarily be wanted by their old boss, but some will be – that was always the case.

But with Yates also facing an uncertain wait on clarification of his budget for the season ahead, nothing is likely to happen quickly – unless the club’s search for fresh investment bears fruit in the meantime.

So the manager is promising nothing, although he feels a natural empathy towards the players that served him so well last term.

What he does suggest is that, before the month is out, a lot of situations could have changed.

Yates said: “You never say never in football. Players that we’re here last season, players that we have been watching, players that I would like to bring in, we are keeping an eye on everything that is going on.

“I don’t want to antagonise the boys that did so well for us last season, they may think I am being a bit aloof, I am not – and I am keeping updated with their situations.

“But I am still maybe a week or two away from knowing for sure what I will have to offer.”
