Penn skipper gunning for upset
Thursday 4th June 2009, 6:44AM BST.
Penn are ready to knock Brockhampton off their perch – according to skipper Richard Bradford.
The Division Two strugglers host the league leaders on Saturday, buoyed by their winning draw against Sutton Coldfield last weekend.
Bradford believes Brockhampton could be due another defeat after their 36 run loss to Aston Manor at the weekend, although admits they are favourites against his second bottom side.
He said: “They will be favourites as they have come up from the league below and are riding the crest of a wave at the moment.
“But when you’ve had one defeat you can usually lose two or three on the trot, so hopefully they’ll lose this Saturday.
“They lost last weekend and it depends how they react from that. I know quite a few of their players and they have got a good team but we’re going there confident.”
Penn have reason to be after another impressive display at Sutton Coldfield where Bradford hit 65, Richard Hewitt plundered 50 and Ben Maddox hit 43 as they posted 254-7.
As Sutton replied Richard Brooker claimed 5-50 and Bradford took 3-18 to restrict them to 163-9.
Bradford added: “It’s congested all the way up to second place, there’s only about 30 points in it. There’s not an outstanding side in the league.
“Every team we’ve played his season have been floored one way or the other.”
