Harriers still waiting to recruit

Thursday 4th June 2009, 8:45AM BST.

yates1Kidderminster manager Mark Yates admits his hands are tied on building next season’s squad until the final word on fresh investment is reached.

Harriers have just three first-team players currently on the books, after a summer cull at the cash-strapped Blue Square Premier club.

But the major work at Aggborough is going on behind the scenes at present, as chairman Barry Norgrove leads the search for new revenue.

He has two potential investors lined up willing to back the club to the tune of six figures, a notable sum of which has been promised to Yates for the playing budget next season.

That looks to be a couple of weeks away from an conclusion, which the manager is waiting for before he revamps the squad.

Any longer than that and he won’t have time to wait – he will need the bodies when what is left of the players return to training at the start of next month.

He said: “We have to be well along the road in getting the squad together by the end of the month, as we start back training on July 1.

“But as it stands we have just under a month to get it started, so I still have time to wait for a firm confirmation of what I have got to work with.”

Despite the clock ticking, Yates feels that waiting – along with the rest of the clubs at their level struggling financially – will prove to Harriers’ benefit.

But that does not stopping him from keeping firmly in the loop on what is and what will become on offer.

The manager said: “We are not desperate to do anything at the moment, we’re keeping our powder dry but keeping abreast on many different situations – in and out of the club.

“Until I know exactly what is happening, I am in no position – and neither do I want to be – to make any more moves.

“When that happens, I will know what type of player I can look toward for next season.”
