Blues breaking record for Benitez

Wednesday 3rd June 2009, 11:35AM BST.

christian-benitezBirmingham are to break their transfer record for the Premier League campaign and snap up Ecuador striker Christian Benitez.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed with Mexican club Santos Laguna and personal terms have been completed with the player, who will travel to England for a medical next week.

Blues will not reveal the transfer fee, but they have confirmed it tops the staggered previous record of around £6million paid to Liverpool for striker Emile Heskey in the summer of 2004.

end of the day no matter how poor blues have been this season – they will be safe next year

their board is ambitious and im really expecting them to sign the likes of hart, barton/nolan etc….

good luck to blues next year, hope we both stay up but im pretty sure it will be us wolves who require the luck

Alright he was poor 2nd half of season but dont talk like you know he’s crap! I see you dont say who you support? Im optomistic we’ll stop up, we’re making the right steps with ambition and a good manager.

Well its actually 10m sign on fee with the figure potentially rising to 15m depending on several factors (including amongst others) A. Goals scored. B. If Birmingham stay in the Premier leauge (theres a bonus for each year Birmingham stay up whilst Benitez is a player at the club).

Its a gamble yes, but all signings are gambles, he isnt as little known as some people will have you believe, he played very well in the last workd cup and has been scoring very very frequently for both club and country since then…

He is quality, you cna Youtube his name or look for other sources if you like, they are on the net, if you search.

Thing is, Wolves already have a striker who will score goals in the prem. So blues have realistically spent a great deal of money just to try and catch us up in the striking department.

    Fair play to em tho…

9 mil for a guy who has never played in europe never mind the Premiership! These little leagues across the globe are not as high standard as they are in europe. Wolves are in talks with matt Derbyshire about a 2.5mil move if all parties agree it will be confirmed on july 1st. Mc Carthy has also bid 5mil for Steven Taylor of Newcastle Moxey is now negotiating apparently depending on Shearer situation. Not bothered by blues players only go there cause they pay over the odds and have a huge turnover of players just sohws they dont really want to be there, ambition- signing over the hill cast offs from premiership clubs reserve team, if you say so!
