Fredrik Lindgren may have notched a splendid 15-point maximum, but team boss Peter Adams had a different man of the match – track guru Alan ‘Doc’ Bridgett.

Adams was conscious of the threat posed late in meetings by a Lakeside team that invariably improves as circuits slicken out and bring their fast starts more into play.

He wanted Wolves to establish an early lead – and got one as they went 10 up after just four races, going on to win by 50-43.

The manager said: “I asked Doc Bridgett to give us a track that was difficult to ride early on and he did.

“The boys took full advantage of that, because the result was chiselled out in the first four heats.

“As the track went slick they came more into it, which we always expected.

“It was important that, for once, we got off to a good start and we did.

“But that’s as much down to the track man as it is to the team, because the track was ideal for us against this opposition. He was track man of the match.”

Skipper Peter Karlsson said: “When the track got slick they worked their way into the meeting.

“We were very good in the beginning. We looked in control.

“But they got that six-pointer (double-point tactical ride) in and things worked for them But we look pretty strong in the end, and again we showed it.”
