60 jobs go at caravan dealership
Tuesday 2nd June 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Around 60 workers have been made redundant after a caravan and motorhome dealership closed its branch in Cannock.
Staff at Discover were stunned to be told they were losing their jobs without warning.
The site employed workers in a variety of roles including sales, administration and repairs and maintenance.
A relative of one of those made redundant, who asked not to be named, said the workforce was devastated.
She said: “I am really angry about the way it was done. Everyone is distraught, there were a lot of tears.
“It was totally out of the blue. Other offices had closed elsewhere in the country but they were told their jobs were safe because Cannock is such a good location for the motorway network.
“The redundancy letter even said trade had been really good recently. The only person who kept their job was the manager who has been transferred to another office but the rest of them were dismissed without warning or emotion.”
The company also closed its Newport and Weston super Mare operations on Thursday bringing the total job losses to 150.
