Captain Daniel set for future talks

Monday 1st June 2009, 8:29AM BST.

wayne-danielStafford captain Wayne Daniel will meet with manager Chris Brindley this week to discuss extending his stay at Marston Road.

The central defender will start his eighth season at the club if he can come to an agreement on terms for 2009/10.

Daniel is keeping his options open to what is likely to be offered, with the prospect of even another contract – which are likely to be scarce in the Blue Square North – under consideration.

The 32-year-old has just returned from holiday and will meet with Brindley this week for the first time since the end of the season, with the long-serving stopper happy to play on after completing his testimonial year.

Now comes the hard part, manager and player meeting somewhere in the middle and shaking hands on a deal.

Then Daniel can relax and enjoy the last month off, before the slog of pre-season starts in July.

He said: “I have just got back from holiday myself, while Chris was away before that, so I haven’t seen anybody from the club since the end of the season. But I know the manager has spoken to most of the players, because I had a quick chat with him the other day.

“We plan to meet this week and hopefully we can things wrapped up nice and quick. Pre-season starts at the end of the month, so I want to get my future sorted as quickly as possible so I can relax.

“I am sure I will be offered something – it’s just what that will be.”
