Battered and bruised Fredrik Lindgren will pick himself up to take the number one jacket for Wolves speedway.

The star suffered a spectacular crash in Saturday’s Swedish Grand Prix at Gothenburg, after hitting a rut on what was universally regarded as a poor racing surface.

The crash wiped out Lindgren’s challenge at the semi-final stage, but he still lies seventh and in touch with the race for the world crown currently led by Jason Crump.

Swedish ace Lindgren’s stellar British form this season sees him sit proudly on top of the Elite League averages, so with the ‘Green Sheet’ figures now taking effect he moves to number one for Wolves.

Skipper Peter Karlsson takes Lindgren’s former number five jacket, starting with tonight’s visit of Lakeside (7.30pm).

Club owner Chris Van Straaten is confident that riding at one will not affect the form of Lindgren, who took the role throughout last season’s campaign.

He said: “I don’t think it will make any difference. He’s full of confidence.

“He had a hell of a fall in the GP, but his league match in Poland was rained off, which is a relief. It’s 24 hours’ extra rest. He’s just battered and bruised.”

Poole’s Joe Screen guests for Tai Woffinden, who competes for the Great Britain under-21 side in Abensburg and was in blistering form, when he top scored with paid 13 for his Polish side Czestochowa in their 53-37 home win over Gdansk.

Lakeside pose a significant threat to table-topping Wolves’ proud record of taking maximum points from all seven home league matches to date.

They have a strong spearhead in Adam Shields and Edward Kennett – guesting for the injured Lee Richardson – an impressive second string in Jonas Davidsson and something of a Monmore track specialist in Joonas Kylmakorpi.

Stuart Robson is expected to ride despite a heavy fall at Swindon, but Rob Mear is ruled out by injury sustained in the same match and replaced by Phil Morris.

Wolves rider Joe Haines, who will miss the rest of the season with a neck injury, will visit the track tonight. A collection will be held for the 17-year-old.
