Kightly calls for calm on captures

Monday 1st June 2009, 11:00AM BST.

Michael KightlyWolves winger Michael Kightly has urged fans to be patient as the clamour continues to see Premier League signings brought to Molineux.

Supporters are keen to see the arrival of fresh blood to boost chances of survival next season and build on the momentum of the Championship title win.

The agent of Red Star Belgrade captain Nenad Milijas claims Wolves have already made a bid of around £2.6m for the goalscoring midfielder.

Wolves have lodged interest in numerous other targets, while others such as centre-backs Sami Hyypia and Onyewu Oguchi won’t be coming to Molineux.

But Kightly stressed fans needed to remain calm, as he is sure boss Mick McCarthy will sign the right players.

The wide man said: “People just need to look at other teams to see how many signings they’ve made – no one.

“Every year and every transfer window it’s the same – it’s quiet, and then all of a sudden, it goes manic.

“I’m sure the club will get the players they want and there won’t be any problems.”

Kightly also believes everything is set up for Wolves to have a special ‘pull’ to be a highly attractive proposition for new signings.

The 23-year-old believes the club’s position, with promotion as champions, its heritage, fanbase, Molineux, the club’s potential, its training ground, management, coaching and medical facilities make the club an excellent choice for prospective arrivals.

He said: “It’s a very attractive club for someone to look at.

“You just have to look at the place, look at the ground, the fans, the training ground, that fact we’ve got a top manager, top coaching staff and top physios – every aspect of the club is right.

“Hopefully we can stay in the Premier League this season, establish ourselves in there and this club can move on.”

we need to be rapid in the transfer Market – quick like Vassell or Harewood over 20 years.

I don’t feel quite like panicking, but definately a little concerned when I see Birmingham closing in on 6mill Benitez.. and all we’ve declared is that we’re not willing to pay this or that..

Even the players we are linked with, seem more interested in going else where!

i am sure we will make signing and i am also sure they will be better than last year, however we do need to move quicker, we had a head start on the blues and burnley (that still looks wrong) but we haven’t taken it.

still think it is a shame that we are not going for huddlestone as i have heard his price has now dropped to £6m from £8m.

Quite simply if we sign no-one then we go down, the club know this so dont you think they are working on bringing in the right players?? Of course they are so morons sit tight they will come. Until then just shut up.

5 Yep Its “rumoured” that Notlob are prepared to pay £6m for Huddlestone

It will be very interesting to see who Moxey does manage to come up with – Imv I dont even believe that Moxey is prepared to spend £6m on any player

Lets see – If any of the media stuff is to be believed – Dos that mean that we wont pay a higher Prem salary of £x (even on a free transfer) and wont pay a fee of above £y either?

So if true – that places us in the below £3 – £4m bracket?

NB* I hope we dont talk ourselves out of too many deals

Well anything better than last time must be an improvement – I dont think this is down to SM or MM – Imv Moxey hasnt got what it takes to “pursuade” the “better than average Prem Players”

NB* I hope Moxey reads this and gets “fired up” to prove me and any other doubters wrong OR will we get Mols favourite son making another “appeal” to the fans?

Just get on with it Moxey – IF you cant manage it go for the best of the lower leagues – Lee Croft is available on a Free from NAARWICH and his Opta stats were very good in the Chumpionship

Quite right 7. DudzieWolf, the window does not open until July 1st BUT that does not stop clubs talking to agents in the meantime!
The last time we gained promotion to the Prem we were weeks behind the other teams and missed out. This time though I am sure that agents have been spoken to and agreements have quite possibly been made BUT they cannot be officially announced until July 1st.
I am as eager as everyone else to know who we will sign but the club will not be saying anything until the ink has dried – so yes, patience everyone!

Protracted discussions take a long time and having had a healthy head start ours are likely to be far in advance of the blues or burnley.

If I am not mistaken there has not been a single signing made by any club in any division yet! Some of the European leagues only finished their seasons this last week and I dare say that it is holiday time at most clubs across the continent.

As Kites says just relax, the players we are going to sign are not likely to have made the press as senior club officials and any agents worth their salt recognise the benefits of keeping discussions behind closed doors. Don’t be surpised if a number of new faces appear on the back of the E&S that we hadn’t even thought about!

For now enjoy the rumours, speculation and gossip and get out there in the sunshine!!!!!

It’s all about us finding better players than we’ve already got. This is going to be more difficult for us than Birmingham because their players are rubbish.

One thing that seems apparent now is just how much more time Wolves have got to prepare than the rest of the Prem. It seems ages since we played a “competitive game”. I think we can have a huge advantage on the other Prem teams that have just knocked off for the season.

It was a feature last season how we hit the ground running (and had a really good and winning friendly campaign). We can get 2 more friendlies/practice games in than the rest of the Prem. If we’re as fit as fiddles by the 1st game and the fixtures drop right, we can make hay for the 1st month of the season.

    Off the BBC website:

The transfer window is now closed for signings for the remainder of the season.

Premier League, Football League and Scottish Premier League clubs cannot sign any players, on loan or full transfers, until the transfer window ahead of the 2009/10 season opens on 1 July.

Outside of the transfer windows, any club may still sign players on an emergency basis (such as if they had no goalkeepers available) with the permission of their competition’s governing body, such as the Premier League.

Players who are out of contract and do not have a club, can be signed outside of the transfer window if they are unattached free agents when the window closes.

The transfer window does not apply to clubs below Blue Square Premier level.

There are some similarities, but for once let’s contrast and this may explain why we will be ultimately more successful…

    1) We are a bigger and more famous club, better equipped for the Prem (in every department)
    2) WBA are a YO YO club.
    3) Our promoted side is better (and improving) than your promoted side before signings.
    4) Our style of play is more effective for a lower half premier side (set pieces, play on the break, speed, energy, athleticism).
    5) You lost your top scorer and never replaced him.
    6) Our manager is a name and has more pulling power, premier experience and better connections.
    7) We have a chairman who has ring fenced an additional £30m for investment before any premiership windfall.

    No1) see No 46
No 2)are you forgetting, to be a yo yo club you first need to be promoted??? and I’m not talking 4th to 3rd division !!!
No 3) Very debatable, you won a very average Championship, where Reading and Blues did everything they could to self implode, and where in your last 10 matches you struggled to beat bottom clubs 1-0, do you think Blues and Burnley will do a Stoke and Hull?
No 4) You are kidding yourself if you think your style of player will guarantee 4th from bottom or better
No 5) absolutely right, for the sake of only ONE of our players, who was easily worth the 4 points over a season we needed to stay up, only ONE player.
No 6) premier experience? better connections? I cant see too many players break down his door, and his track record in Premier League is exactly what ? for example will he be offered Champions League football next season ?, where it looks likely Mowbray will with Celtic!!
No 7) it is good you have an extra 30 million to spend, but, pound for pound spent since the Sir Jack era you have had, and spent several millions more than Albion, and yet, over the same period you have not had as much success, or won as many head to heads as we have. Truth is, if we had had a quarter of the money you have wasted we would be an established Premier League club now, not just a team about to get their 2nd Premiership Promotion.

    5) Tomorrow Tomorrow your always a day away
    6) There is more chance of Wolves taking the Celtic manager…see point 1 ref big clubs
    7) We are New Wolves. The Sir Jack era left us with a ground and nothing else. Mick has taken this club from point zero to the Prem in 3 years under a new regime. We will be playing European football in another 3…mark my words.

    1) You’ve missed the point completely, No 46 did not only say top flight stays, and it was based on going bust due to no revenue from support, or being in the bottom league.
No2) of course you need to be promoted and relegated, but the optimum word is PROMOTED, any fools can get relegated as in top flight to basement in 3 seasons? To say you wont be doing an Albion is very, very arrogant and naive at best, and, is one of the reasons your fans are not very popular.
    3) You may not be worried about what Burnley and Blues do, but if you are going to try and predict the future, you can only do this on past facts, can you not.
    4) Yes our “romantic” style of play saw us relegated, it also saw us praised by pundits and fans alike for being entertaining and fresh, rather than usual lump it up the field and hope, time and time again teams who try this in the Premiership ALWAYS get found out, its a revolution and revolutions need time to build.
No 5) seeing has you have not argued this point you must concur to agree.
No 6) I have no idea what you are trying to say, have Celtic come in for Mick then?
No 7) Are then saying that the Sir Jack era is like the Bobby in the shower Dallas episode, a whole period did not matter? thats a bit disrespectful to Sir Jack don’t you think?

And finally, the reason for the lateness of my reply is I am working nights this week ( I presume from your times of contributing you do not work, and hence, have lots of time to compose your efforts ) If, you are stating that we are by “definition getting smaller” because this season we are out of the Prem, remember we have completed four seasons their already, by your own definition than, you have some catching up to do to be as “small” as us?

    61) I have no nerves to rattle. They all magically disappeared when promotion was gained this season. I’m absolutely chilled now. But I’m having great fun hearing from my Albion chums like you so lets carry on….
    1) We’ll agree to differ on size of club. You and 46 judge size on the lowest point a club has reached…I judge on world wide fame, past glories, present status, size of following, catchment area, media coverage and sustainability. Sustainability is just one of my criteria you’ll note. (You make Coventry a bigger club than Leeds don’t you?)

    2) I make no apologies for being arrogant. Arrogance is borne by success. Success is borne by ability and will. Ability and will are borne by planning and expertise. Planning and expertise underpin Mick McCarthy’s New Wolves and will continue to do so for the next decade and more. Is it not arrogant to post on a Wolves topic when you’re a Boggie fan?
    3) The future is best predicted on current facts my friend.
    4) Can I join those plaudits and say you are the most attractive side to ever get relegated. Long may you continue to play your attractive football. I wish you continued success with it.
    5) Let me rephrase so you understand…Close but no cigar.
    6) No Celtic wouldn’t waste their time or ours. A Premiership manager is beyond their reach.
    7) Looking back, you’re right the whole period does not matter now. Now that we are in the Premier with a fantastic squad of gifted and emerging talent and funds to strengthen…this is all that matters now.

I hope you get to read this before you start your nights. Well done. I know I couldn’t manage nights…far too much like hard work for me. I was watching an episode of Dallas once and it dawned on me…if you want to make something of yourself, stop watching this tripe and educate yourself. That way you can post on the internet any time you like because you won’t be a wage slave, you’ll be your own boss (and what’s remarkable is that the internet was not even invented at the time!)

What are you a security guard?

Keep up the good work my friend.

Oh dear, you really are getting rattled aren’t you. Just to but your mind at rest, I actually run two businesses, not that I think there is anything wrong with being a security guard, I am not condesending enough to believe anyones job is “beneath” me as you obviously do. As for Dallas, never watched it, but I’m aware of it, its called having a general knowledge, its all part of being educated, anyway to argue with your logic, I’m not going to go down “my Dads bigger than yours” route your obviously aiming for, suffice to say education wise I am quietly confident it is better than yours.

1)world wide fame, debatable, you basing this on what??
past glories we can match you on
present status one of the only clubs that turns a profit each year and is financially sound and sustainable, without having to rely on sugar daddies thank you very much.
Size, your gate is no bigger than ours.
Catchment area, yes its good when a town club matches a cities following isn’t it, much more of an achievement.
Media coverage, are you serious? what past year, 2 years? we have had way more exposure on the media (don’t forget FA cup run)
    2) “you make no apologies for being arrogant”, say no more!
3)The current facts are as a newly promoted team, with nothing new to offer, you are doomed to relegation before you start. Thats why the bookmakers make newly promoted teams favourite for the drop, based on CURRENT facts.
4)See above, and then at least try something new/different.
5)You said it,we needed ONE player, not EIGHT, in fact, if you had been promoted with us, we did not even need that one player, with our usual 6 points from you we would have been safe.
6)So you are saying Mick has no ambition to play in Champions League? (can I point out by the way, what Mick did in 3 Tony done in 2)
    7) poor old Jack, he deserves better, a lot better.

Now I know you said sitting down like a security guard was too much like hard work for you, but if you can find time in your busy schedule, please, feel free to reply.

Thanks for “Butting” my mind at ease. I am happy for my posts to stand alongside yours as an indication of our respective intelligence.

Well done on running your two businesses. Although if you are having to work nights are you running them or are they running you? A work-life balance that’s the key although I can understand your desire to take your mind off current football events. Immerse yourself in work, it will aid the grieving process.

I’m finding it difficult to elaborate over the points again and again when you move on inaccurately with replies such as…
Past glories, we can match you on…WRONG
    Present status…POOR REPLY…Chelsea & Man U are in debt with sugar daddies…
Gate…we both have grounds too small for our support when in the top flight, potential gate is the point you failed to make.

I am finding it hard to motivate myself to continue this debate with such inadequate and inaccurate replies as these coming back. Alas, I feel it is taking too much of my time to keep correcting you (and there’s an episode of Dallas I’ve recorded, which I need to watch as part of the OU degree I am doing in my spare time)

But one final very telling point made in your email. We are not doomed to relegation as a promoted team. No one is. You are showing the scars of a very very poor and lack lustre campaign last season. Looking from the outside in you did seem to give up a little bit too easily this time round and I’m wondering if West Brom has the stomach to keep Yo-Yo-ing up and down so uncontrollably. How can you possibly stabilise?

I think it is noticeable (understandably so) that your posts have an undercurrent of jealousy and malice. This worries me. I think it will destroy you if we succeed.

When we do, I’ll cut short the celebrations and say a little prayer for you (and you two businesses).

    Cheers, it’s been fun.

I hate to be a doom and gloomer, because I always hate people who are so negative on here, but if we wont pay the money for quality like Huddlestone, who are we going to buy…. like Mick said we need Premier League Experience. That means buying some Serbian who hasn’t been to England let alone played in the Prem League isnot going to cut it… Same old story Moxey

    69,

So, do you think we should fund Harry Rednapp’s summer spending spree by paying over the top for a mid table reserve team player??

The transfer window opens 1st July. This doesnt stop clubs signing players. The rule states, players who sign before that date cant participate in any offical fixture.Being that the Prem, doesnt start till 15th aug, this rule is a bit of a nonsence.

    67) I think you are taking me out of context, true I am no fan of Wolves, but neither do I wish them any ill, I am even less of a fan of the gulf thats growing between teams such as ours and the Untouchables at the top of the greed league, as you will find out this season, dodgy referee decisions, F.A. bias, inability to compete financely, you have all this to come. I was merely reacting to some one who was trying to big up their team by slating mine, and using spurious arguments to do it (No 60)Europe in 3 years!!). That said, a reality check is needed, you are going to find, as we did, winning the Championship was the easy part, now the hard times begin.

    Good Luck.

p.s. if you are going to do a degree, try doing a proper one, other than the media studies you say you are studying, it will be better for you in the long run, I know you said your lazy, but hard work really did not kill anyone!
