Himley press into league finals

Two successful run chases took Himley into the Birmingham League finals of the Cockspur National Knockout Twenty20 as they defeated rivals Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
The hosts won the first two matches of their round-robin first-round event to claim maximum points and move to the next stage yesterday.
Shrewsbury then defeated Wolverhampton in the final match of the day, which turned out to be a ‘dead rubber.’
Stuart Wedge hit an unbeaten 58, as Himley claimed a three-wicket win in the first match of the day after restricting Shrewsbury to 149.
Dan Bassett then scored 58 not out, with Nitesh Patel blasting 53 as Himley won by eight wickets against Wolverhampton having kept their opponents down to 147.
Shrewsbury then made 179 against Wolverhampton in the final game, with their opponents reaching 120 in reply.
Kidderminster also qualified for Birmingham League finals day as they came out on top against Bromsgrove and hosts Barnt Green.
Chris Pyke hit 41 as Kidderminster made 163-8, before dismissing Barnt Green for 92.
Captain Jonathan Wright then claimed 3-18, as they restricted Bromsgrove to 117-7 after making 146-7.
