Final 99 jobs go in Egg closure
Monday 1st June 2009, 7:24PM BST.
Almost 100 jobs are being shed in Dudley by on-line credit company Egg, which has confirmed it is closing its Brierley Hill call centre.
All posts will be transferred to the company’s Derby headquarters.
The Brierley Hill call centre, at Waterfront business park, is due to close by the end of July.
Egg spokesman Theresa La Thangue today said that all 99 staff currently based in Brierley Hill had been told about the closure which follows a consultation period that started in January.
She said: “The consultation period has come to an end and the Brierley Hill office will be closed by the end of July.
“All of the positions will be migrated to Derby but we will not be commenting on who takes up what positions where at this stage.”
At its peak, Egg, the world’s largest on-line bank, employed around 450 workers at Brierley Hill, but axed 350 jobs at the branch in April last year.
Staff were again offered the same transfer package to Derby, but the Express & Star understands the majority chose to take redundancy rather than move.
In March this year, Egg closed its Manchester office and transferred positions to Derby. The firm says the move to Derby will help create a central UK base.
