Roadside storm in a D-cup

Saturday 30th May 2009, 11:02AM BST.

A passerby views the controversial bra poster on Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton. An underwear billboard has come to Wolverhampton – and is causing quite a stir among motorists.

The traffic-stopping bra ads, part of Marks & Spencer’s 125th anniversary celebrations, have sent sales of the product through the roof – but led to concerns from safety groups that it may cause accidents as drivers avert their eyes from the road.

Online orders of the silky green undies featured in the ad have soared by 163 per cent, while the advertising campaign has helped to triple the firm’s lingerie sales in the past year, with two bras being snapped up every second.

The M&S switchboard has been inundated with calls to find out the identity of the model whose face is not seen in the poster.

She has been unveiled as 23-year-old Natalie Suliman, a former youth worker who turned model two years ago after being spotted at a public pool near her home in Islington, North London. She said she nearly crashed her car when she first saw her 32E chest on a billboard.

The new ad, on a busy crossroads at Parkfields Road, has been likened in its impact to the “Hello Boys” Wonderbra ad of 1994.
