Smethwick glaziers cut 60 jobs

Friday 29th May 2009, 11:00AM BST.

Sixty people have lost their jobs after a Black Country double glazing factory went into administration.

KEB Fabrications Limited, in Rolfe Street, Smethwick, has been locked up for the past week after managers failed in their bid to sell the company

The Express & Star revealed fears about the company on Wednesday, but bosses would not comment at the time.

Now administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP have insisted they had no option but to make 60 redundancies with immediate effect.

Tony Barrell, joint administrator and director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Birmingham, said: “The company’s financial difficulties, which culminated in a petition to wind up the company being presented last week, led to the cessation of production at the Rolfe Street premises on Friday.”

KEB is a manufacturer and installer of double glazing products supplying councils, housing associations and large builders.
