Kightly targets pre-season return

Friday 29th May 2009, 9:32AM BST.

michaelkightlyWolves winger Michael Kightly is hoping to start running next week as he begins a countdown to be fit for the start of pre-season training.

The flying wide man sees a specialist about his broken metatarsal in a week, aiming for the go-ahead to step up his rehabilitation.

Kightly’s aim is to be ready to hit the ground running when Mick McCarthy’s squad return to work on June 29.

The player said: “I’m just waiting on the all-clear to start running which hopefully I’ll get next Friday. If so I’ll start running the following week.

“If I don’t get the all-clear, I’ll have to just rest it a bit longer but I’m still sure I’ll be fine for pre-season, which starts on June 29.

“Hopefully I’ll be joining in with that and then getting off to Australia for the tour.”
