Harriers still harbour league hope

Friday 29th May 2009, 8:25AM BST.

norgroveKidderminster chairman Barry Norgrove insists the club have not lost their ambition and are “desperate” to get back into the Football League.

A second promotion looks a far-off dream as it currently stands, despite only missing out on the play-off’s on the last day of the Blue Square Premier season.

Harriers are letting go of 10 players of that sixth-placed squad, with four already gone from Aggborough.

Manager Mark Yates has a rebuilding job on his hands this summer, although there is always the possibility that some of the released stars will return – if they are unable to find suitable deals with new employers.

But the chairman is working hard to boost the budget and send a clear message that the club still have plenty of ambition – as long as it is not risked against their future.

Norgrove insists no-one will rest until Harriers are back in the Football League or at least have the tools available to do so.

He said: “We are desperate to get back into the Football League, that means more to us than any cup run. Financially, we would be a lot better off, with the higher revenue streams that are available.

“If we had gone up last season, we would then have been in the position where we could have kept most of the players we have had to let go, because there would have been more money available to us. The margins between success and failure are very fine.

“But we are moving on, we are all working hard to get a good side together for next season that can have us up there competing again.”
