Wolves target Albion striker

Marc-Antoine Fortune

Albion loan striker Marc-Antoine Fortune will sign for Wolves or Fulham, according to the player’s agent.

Wolves watched several of the target man’s last games for the Baggies and the player’s representative today claims the Nancy striker’s destination will be Molineux or Craven Cottage this summer.

“To my mind, he is going to sign with either Wolverhampton or Fulham, even if surprises can always happen,” said Michael Manuello.

“Wolves and Fulham have expressed their interest in Marco’s services. But I can’t tell you when a deal will be done.

“For sure, he wants to stay in the Premier League and he has proved that he has the talent to impose himself in this competition.

“It’s easier to know how things will happen in France, whereas it’s slightly more complicated in England.”

Fortune, who would cost Wolves upwards of £1m, has adapted well to the demands of Premier League, where he spent the second half of the season on loan at Albion.

His record of five goals in 17 games – all starts – prompted Albion boss Tony Mowbray to earmark the French forward as a signing for next season as the Baggies seek to launch a promotion bid from the Championship.

Fortune was back in France earlier week discussing his future with Nancy officials.

But it now looks as if he has decided his future lies in England – and possibly with an extended spell in the West Midlands.

Despite Albion’s relegation, the forward made a name for himself in England during his six-month spell.

Fortune scored on his debut in a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough on January 17 then added braces in a

3-2 home defeat against Newcastle and the 3-0 Hawthorns success against Wigan on May 9.

Fortune has been at Nancy since January 2007 after spells with Lille and Dutch club Utrecht.

Wolves are seeking to strengthen in all departments following their Championship title win.

If you get him Wulfies, he’ll be a major asset to you. Just hope SEB has his goal scoring boots to play alongside him as Fortune won’t score you many, but he’ll create a load of chances.

If he could start finishing easy chances he’d be worth 10 million!!

I dont really want him, I just think it would be funny to pinch him from Albion and put him in the reserves.
Poor old Albion, finish bottom, the manager could be off, the skipper wants out. They cant get a shirt sponsor and their star striker wants to wear the gold and black. Just think how much stick you lot gave us last year and our position was nowhere near as bad as your plight.
Fair play to us Wolves, top away support in the football league and see the bookies have Burnley,Brum and Hull as favs to go down. Looks like were staying up then.

He leads the line very well if you decide to play 1 up front. Runs his socks off and gives his all, and the ball just sticks to him. Very, very strong.

HOWEVER, for a striker he just can’t score goals. 5 from 17 starts is pretty poor – doubly so when you consider how attacking Albion were and how many opportunities per game they created.

Remember that 4 of those five goals came in 2 matches, and the other one was really Koren’s which hit the back of Fortune’s heel.

An honest, team player who gives his all – yes. A goalscoring centre-forward? never.

I don’t think 5 in 17 is poor. That would mean 11 goals over the season which would put him 7th or 8th top scorer in the league. Camara scored 7 in about 30 last time when we were in the prem. I think he’d be a great addition!

I love this bloke as a player, he’s honest, hard working and I think, very under rated skill wise. Holding the ball up is a talent, Bob Taylor had it and MAF does. As someone has said already, if this bloke could score goals he’d be worth £10 mill, as would SuperBob if he’d had more pace. I think if he goes to Wolves he may be crucified by the section of their fans that only see the goals scored side of his game.

Too many wolves fans obsessed with the Albion. If this guy fits the bill who cares where he comes from, its what he does in a Gold & black shirt that is the only thing that matters. Could be a bargain or could be another Keogh. If the Albion fans want to keep him then he should be ok on the otherhand if they want rid then that tells another story.

Ok he’s not a natural goalscorer but neither is Kevin Davis only one season he has got into double figures for bolton but I bet his name usually the 1st one on the team sheet and I wouldn’t mind him at the wolves.
Although this bloke doesn’t score many I bet the players around him manage to bag a few goals. He’s alot like keogh but with alot more power to really cause prewiership defences some problems!

“Star striker wants to wear gold and black”- it’s more likely star striker wants more money (in which case he’ll probably go to Fulham, they tripled Gera’s wages when he left us) and Premiership football.

Its amazing how many proud dingles there are now when things are going well.

As for Fortune his skill on the ball, especially at wigan game was immense. And it would be Nancy u would sign him from and I think its in the contract we would have first option so u would have 2 beat our offer and even then Fulham could offer less still and he would probably go there for premiership security & higher wages.

Only seen him in highlights, but he does not impress as a goalscorer. He does not score enough for the number of chances he gets on the end of. That is borne out by his career record.

I think he would be a damn good signing.. Like Ned says, he might not have scored that many goals, but he creates a lot of chances, and SEB rarely misses a half decent chance, this is what we need.

Bitterness aside we should be supporting our team and what’s best for it, not turning away in disgust from what, in my opinion, is the chance to sign a decent player just because of where he plays now.

And for all the baggies who are shocked and appalled at Wolves fans jibes toward them and their relegation and current situation, just have a think back to this time last year when the boot was on the other foot and all the boasting and slack we have to grin and bear…. Honestly, what did you expect? It’s all part of the show. The tables have turned and we thoroughly deserve to poke fun in good faith, because last season proved when it’s the other way around most baggies didn’t miss the opportunity either.

I think this would be a great signing.. Like Nedball says he may not score many goals but he creates many good chances and SEB rarely misses a half decent chance..This is what we need.

As for fellow Wolves fans, we should be supporting the team and wanting to do well, not turning away in disgust at a potential great signing just because of who he currently plays for.

For the baggies who are shocked and appalled at Wolves fans poking fun about your relegation and current issues, honestly, what did you expect?? This time last year we had to grin and bear a torrent of bragging and jibes from West Brom fans because the boot was on the other foot.. I think any Wolves fan who feels the need to poke a little fun in good faith has every right, it goes with the game, why some comments surprise some of you is beyond me, as a year ago you proved you didn’t mind doing exactly the same when it was the other way around. Again, it goes with the game. I’ve no doubt in my mind if we do as badly as you have, next season, some of you will be rolling in delight and not missing any opportunity to laugh and say ‘I told you so’.. You can’t have two rival teams at opposite ends of the scale as one does well and the other fails miserably and not expect this.. Move on and support your team, have better hopes for next season, some Wolves fans might revel in the whinging brigade but it certainly is not the majority, as i’m sure the ‘Mowbray out’ and ‘this teams gone to hell’ brigade are not the majority of your support base.

Looks a good player don’t get me wrong. Wolves need to make big signings. Huddlestone 8 million you have to buy these kind of players and pay this kind of money to keep you in the premiership. If wolves don’t realise this it cold be the same as last time in the premiership.

You idiots are already planning for life back in the CCC
Long term contracts to the Mighty S Ward, the goal scoring forward Keogh, that great Midfielder Henry, and dont forget that young chap Craddock, and that world beater Collins, this is the type of players that will drag in the top stars from the 2nd and conference league.

Terry, Your not really in a position to comment. Your best players want to leave along with your manager. You still have no sponsor and you will get low crowds next season. We have a better squad than you hence why we won it by 7 more points and were not going to lose our best players, enjoy Scunthorpe and Peterborough. The futures gold.

An idle thought came to me whilst I was reading through the above.
If those players mentioned in the amounts of money talked about are worth so much, How much would a top of his form player like George Best be worth in todays inflated market?
That’s the old sober Best i’m talking about!
    Up The Wolves
and yes Sir Terry I know we couldn’t afford him

50 – JWolf oh na sorry dont know u, was thinking was someone else. Sorry mate, my mistake. A Wolves fan in West Brom anyway?? Is that allowed? :)

Laffinwulf of course we are bitter! Probably not as bitter as u lot was, but course we are, incase u forgot were Albion, we dont like u & thats puttin it lightly. As JWolf said, its part of football & u was doing exactly same as us last year.
As for winning league, 2 different seasons can never really be same. There are arguments for both sides which season was tougher but u have 2 wonder where u would of finished if we had been in that league 2 beat u! Yes u have minuteley bigger crowds but its not our fault our chairman ridiculously & uneccesarily decided 2 reduce the ground capacity. We would of easily filled ur (slightly) bigger yet quieter & uglier ground this season. If u didnt know we have already sold 16,000 season tickets for next year so crowds wont be bad as u think. Ur away support has never been any bigger than ours until recently when everythings fine n dandy….funny that! Albion are renowned for away support & if anythin over last few years its us that have took more of an away following. As for u havin better squad? No way!! Just no way sorry. Thats why I think a pre-season so called friendly is in order 2 prove. What d’ya say??

I think your more `GOLD AND KACK` rather than
    `GOLD AND BLACK.
Its sounds like typical Wolves to me as you cant
find your own players so you just pinch ours.
I also thought the Dingles had a pot full of cash! `if so then why are you going in for
players like Fortune ,1M is hardly breaking the
    bank now is it.
