Wolves chief hurt in holiday fall

Thursday 28th May 2009, 11:01AM BST.

General view of outside Molineux stadiumWolves secretary Richard Skirrow has fractured his skull when he suffered a fall during a walking holiday in France, it emerged today.

Mr Skirrow, who has been at the helm of the club for more than a decade, fell around two weeks ago while on a family holiday in the Pyrenees and is said to be recovering well at home.

He is due to visit the club’s Compton training ground this week.

Club spokesman Matt Grayson today confirmed the news and said everyone at Wolves was looking forward to welcoming Mr Skirrow back. “Richard had a fall during a walking holiday in France, sustaining a fractured skull,” he said.

“He is recovering very well at home and is due to pop into our training ground over the next couple of days. We’re looking forward to welcoming him back at work.”

Mr Grayson did not have any more details about the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Mr Skirrow joined Wolves in 1996 after previously serving Premier League club West Ham in a simlar capacity.

A keen cricket fan who has followed England to Australia in the past, the 55-year-old is one of the four key cogs in the decision-making process at Molineux along with owner-chairman Steve Morgan, chief executive Jez Moxey and manager Mick McCarthy.

More than 2,200 Wolves fans logged onto a fans’ website last night to wish him all the best, with dozens leaving supportive messages.

Although he plays a key role at the club, Mr Skirrow is very low profile when it comes to the media.

One fan on-line said: “This is bad news – a guy who is dedicated to the success of our club, I wish him a speedy recovery back to good health.”
