Rangers ready for Brunt bid

Thursday 28th May 2009, 2:01PM BST.

West Bromwich Albion's Chris BruntRangers are ready to step up their bid to sign Chris Brunt from Albion, according to reports in Scotland today.

The Baggies winger has emerged as a leading target for the Old Firm club, but Hawthorns chairman Jeremy Peace has insisted none of the Baggies’ star players will be leaving this summer.

Brunt, whose family are Rangers fans, hit a flurry of goals at the end of the season to grab the attention of scouts.

Albion are still pursuing their interest in deposed Rangers captain Barry Ferguson.

Even if they are, I doubt that they could afford him.
Just heard this one on Talksport.
Barcelona were missing three key players last night. So were United, Stiles, Reilly and Webb.

Not sure why it took Brunty 28 games to get going this season, but I hope we keep him…… unless Rangers wanna swap Boyd AND Ferguson for him.

£ 3million plus Barry Ferguson for Chrissy Brunt.
    I’d take it.

As much as i’d hate to see him leave the Albion he’s one of the few players we can realistically get a decent few for. 3-4 million with Ferguson thrown in would be a more than reasonable price

We have to keep Chris Brunt,as with the situation with Tony Mowbray. The club MUST offer a HANDS OFF warning to ALL CLUBS!If the club refuse anybody to talk to any of the players that we want to keep. Then we won’t have any problems. If in that case the players are not happy. Then shove them in the reserves all season and let the fans know the situation. We can then let the said players know what we think of them.

A perfect example of ‘Zero To Hero’ in no time at all. The potential was always there and some of us shouted it out loud and clear, (bows head in false modesty). Now everybody wants a piece of Brunty. Let’s hope he stays.

I can’t believe that we, in fact I DON’T believe that we would be willing to let Brunt go for 4.5 million after purchasing him from Shefield Wednesday for 3million then helping him prove that he can play in the prem after all the doubters backed out of buying him originally ie Fulham. Now that we,ve taken him there and improved the player we’re supposed to let him go at, (what I would deem), a bargain price? Does this sound like a Peace move to you? How much would we have to pay for a replacement? I don’t recall us having another natural midfield left footer in the squad.

Lost the ealier message i sent so I’ll try and keep this brief. Brunt for 3 to 4.5 million after we paid 3 from lower league Sheffield Wednesday and improved him in the Premiership?!? Does this sound like us? I don’t think so, some folks have a bit too much wishfull thinking going on there, 6 minimum! Plus Ferguson! Who is his natural replacement if we were willing to let him go? I don’t recall us having another natural left footer in midfield. Sorry not quite as brief as I thought.

peace you are a disgrace,do you think us fans are stupid enough not to donate to a charity just because we have a charity name on our shirts, only a fool would think the club would donate on our behalf especially one run by someone as tight as you, better to have a charity org on our shirts than nothing again,as for the players if any of them want to leave let them,we will replace them and move on,hope TM stays, hope fortune doesnt sign for the dingles he’d be better staying with us cos he’ll be in the championship in 12 months time anyway

Well what can you say Mowbray since he as been manager has had 3 different teams it says alot about mr Peace dont it sell sell
i cant understand how the fans just except all this from JP the guy as undermind TM every step of the way and previous managers too
he cant even get a short sponser thats says alot about him i think sell up please!

We paid 3 million for him no way in hell is he going for the paltry sums mentioned so far! We didn’t buy him from Sheffield Wednesday, improve him, prove him as a premiership player and goal soring midfielder just to give him away for what we paid, or a token amount more! who would replace him and how much would they cost? To my knowledge we have no other natural left footed midfielder, free kick specialist. To my mind there’s very little point selling unless we’re talking at least 6 million. well got it off my chest now Boing Boing Baggies!

Chris Brunt is an enigma. Awful for the first of this season, and excellent in the 2nd half. Will he be as good as he was in the 2nd half of this season without Fortune to create the space and chances for him?

If we were to get Ferguson and Boyd plus a million in return for Brunty then we should let him go but just £4.5 million for a player we helped become a Prem league player isn’t good business.

Was just about to agree with various people about not undervalueing him when Ned comes up with his excellent point. However, as someone said on the last thread, we will have Ish coming back and hopefully he will have learnt a lot from watching MAF.
If Rangers are after CB, then I don’t think for a minute it will be for a penny less than JP values him at. It’s like the Davies situation, they want to buy him, we don’t want to sell him. Thay either stump up or he stays. I think he’d be a very good player up there. The slower pace of the game would suit his style.
We certainly don’t owe Rangers any favours. Their stealing of Majid Bougherra from under our noses may have been the main contributory factor in our relegation.

If you can get 2mil plus Barry Ferguson and a goal scorer (but not disruptive Boyd) then that would be good business. Apparently Mowbrsy is very keen on the Celtic job but Peace is a quality businessman and wont let him go unless you get a good fee. If however he does leave Steve Coppell would be a great Manager for the baggies. As for Fortune I am not sure on Wolves signing him I think there are better players available but he has improved your results considerably since he came in.

    15. You cannot blame Peace, he made 24mil available and Mowbray wasted it not Peace. Stoke and Hull spent less and survived, he got his transfer policy very wrong. As for Kamara, Koumas & co they wanted out and Peace got fantastic way over the odds money for them, a very good chairman.

23 – Shadrag. A post I’m agreeing with you on for the majority of.

I don’t think it was ‘very wrong’ we weren’t far off staying up with the lowest wage bill in the league. Peace has done a decent job in my opinion, but sometimes I think most of us Baggies wish he could just throw caution to the wind on occasion and try to push us on a bit more.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is why (if we’re so well ran) are we having to slash the playing staff numbers and wage bill with it???

Love you Shadrag, give us a cuddle xx

I think it was a combination of playing him out right and Fortuné coming in that made him look good end of season.

If we can’t keep Fortuné and Mowbray, we might as well flog Brunty too as a new manager will stick him back on the left to cross the ball into an empty penalty area.

Most of the time we seem 2 sell a player for a fair amount & never seem 2 get more than the players worth. We bought Brunt for £3 mill and if he was worth that then, well then now he should be worth £6/£7 mill. Other clubs ask for too much money & will push & push 2 get as much as they can, often more than the player is worth (even in the football world) we should do the same! Come on Rangers splash out the cash! Sayin that Brunt is definatley one of the players highest on priority 2 keep.
