Albion today gave Celtic a ‘hands off’ warning as the Old Firm giants turned their attentions back to manager Tony Mowbray.

The Baggies said they would ‘not welcome’ any approach from Parkhead for permission to speak to Mowbray, who is back as favourite to succeed Gordon Strachan after a frantic night of developments.

Top choice Owen Coyle reportedly turned down the Bhoys hot-seat today after emerging last night as the man the SPL giants wanted to take charge.

And that will throw the spotlight squarely back on to Mowbray, who is widely reported to be the next man on the Parkhead hit-list.

Today’s Albion statement read: “We have already made our position very clear on this situation and it has not changed.

“We have not received an approach from Celtic for Tony Mowbray – nor would we welcome one.

“Tony is under contract for the next two years and we fully expect him to remain as our manager.”

Mowbray’s name was thrown back into the frame today as Celtic’s hopes of luring Coyle from Premier League new-boys Burnley appeared to recede.

Last night’s Scottish media was awash with reports that Coyle was set to talk to Celtic and could be unveiled as Strachan’s successor by the weekend.

But Coyle reportedly met with officials at Turf Moor last night to discuss his position and Clarets bosses emerged confident that the former St Johnstone manager would stay to test himself in the English top flight after winning promotion through the play-offs.

Coyle later issued a statement on the Burnley website and sources in Scotland were increasingly convinced today that the boyhood Celtic fan would turn down the chance to manage the club.

Coyle’s overnight statement said: “There has been no approach to Burnley Football Club. It is people simply putting two and two together and making five. I am going on holiday with my family this weekend and I can assure you I will be doing so as Burnley manager.”

A warning means nothing… If Mowbray wants to go he’ll go and I think he’ll be back up Scotland by the end of next week as he simply hasn’t come out with a clear statement saying “I’m happy at West Brom”.

No.2, your club is on the up, just promoted to the premiership whilst we have been relegated, so why are you still so obsessed with all things Albion particulary as you are supposed to support a so-called “bigger” club?

Stop worrying about whats happening at “small” clubs like ours and try actually supporting your own team…i’ve a feeling they’ll need it very soon!

    The Real Bully Hoo.

Celtic have not made any official statements. WBA have said that he is under contract. Are you really saying that he should comment on every rumour that’s in the media. IE say that he doesn’t want a job that hasn’t been offered to him.

    Reality check.

1st – Mowbray has not proved himself in the best league in the world yet? that has to be a driving ambition for any manager. Why go back to Scotland to play far inferior teams, which will be an admittance of failure. I feel his priority will be to get Albion back in the Premiership next season, and prove he can manage there! (Not going anywhere)

2nd – Same with Brunt. we’ll only be down one season, we’ll walk the Championship. (Not going anywhere)

3rd – Robinson, well what can I say. He’s one of the main reasons we have failed to stay up. Not good enough for the Premiership, never was. He’d have left us 2 years ago, if it wasen’t for his Dodgy back. (Good Riddance)

If I’m wrong, you can verbally slaughter me on this site.

4th – It is what it is, so stop worrying.

If some of these brain dead Albion fans had
actually been listening to what Tony Mowbray
said when he first became our manager then people
wouldnt be up in arms about this situation.
`I WOULDN`T GO BACK TO SCOTLAND AGAIN AS ITS LIKE
MANAGING INSIDE A BAKED BEAN CAN`.
