Booze seized from youths in crackdown

Thursday 28th May 2009, 10:06AM BST.

More than 100 cans and bottles of alcohol have been seized from young people in just three hours during a Police operation in Rugeley.

Officers seized booze from youngsters aged below 18 during the initiative.

Police seized about 70 bottles and 30 cans of beer. They also took away 15 bottles of other alcohol including cider, spirits and alcopops. All of the drinks seized last Friday evening will be destroyed.

Sergeant Chris Rodger, of Rugeley Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “The operation was in response to community concerns that a minority of young people are buying or being given alcohol and then drinking in local areas which can lead to incidents of anti-social behaviour.

“We would urge all parents to support what we are doing and to remind youngsters of the affect their behaviour can have on other people.”
