Wolves linked to wanted defender
Wednesday 27th May 2009, 10:19AM BST.
Wolves have been linked to a three-way tug of war for Anderlecht’s hardman defender Marcin Wasilewski.
The 28-year-old Polish international right-back is under contract to 2011, but reports in Holland suggest Wolves, Stoke and Hull are considering £2.2million bids.
Wasilewski is a colourful figure, having scored eight goals this season – the third highest for his club who tied for the title with Standard Liege – while being booked as many times.
The 6ft 1in centre-half, who scores most of his goals from setpiece headers, has netted 13 goals in 68 games for Anderlecht after spells with four Polish clubs.
Wolves have watched Belgian football recently¸but they would hope any moves for Belgians and Poles would be more successful than their previous ventures – expensive striker flops Cedric Roussel and Tomasz Frankowski.

well what is he a right back or a centre half? he can’t naturally be both and you’ve claimed he is in one story, more lazy journalism
Report abuse
Blimmey I had forgotten all about Cedric Roussel…not hard to forget him though :-)
It would be nice to see a new face arrive at Wolves now as even Burnley know where they stand now and they’ll be in the mix to sign the same players.

The missing piece of the Jigsaw? ;)

I Know its still early, but i’m getting a bit disturbed by the standard of player we are being linked with.I thought we would only look at players with Prem pedigree, but some of the names lately arn’t as good as what wev’e already got.The first signing will set the tone for the rest,a TOP player will encourage other TOP players to sign and will give a statement of intent to others.Come on Moxey PAY for quality otherwise I fear its gonna be 2003 again.
i hope the scouting commitee is more proactive than the celebrations commitee…
cant help but feel we are (once again) being kept in the dark and disenfranchised by the club WE make tick.
a month since we got promoted and still NO CELEBRATIONS and NO SIGNINGS
grumble grumble
Report abuse
I think we should revert back to Freddy Eastwood and Frankowski up front. Bags of goals I tell you :)
No celebrations? Did the QPR and Doncaster games pass you by?
5 – Forget the celebrations now, the real work has to begin. Yes we’ve won the league, clap clap clap……etc…….but nows the time to bring in the quality needed and get our players in the right frame of mind. Forget basking in the glory, we dont have the time now.
He plays right-back for Poland and centre-half for Anderlecht.
Its not so much lazy journalism but a deliberate smear mentioning poor buys under previous managers. We now have Mick, Taff and Dave Bowman.
Keep the Faith

His nickname in the Belgium league is
“the brute” !
heavy tackler prone to bookings but very good in the air

Patience..
Let them get on with the job..
Prem season has only just finished and most will now be on hols..
Relax and enjoy..
At least we are not in the Happy Clappers position…
Report abuse
5 – No Celebrations??? Where were you for the QPR match, when we all went on the pitch? Or Barnsley? Or Doncaster? It seemed like the celebrations were never going to end.
As for keeping the fans in the dark … do you really want them to alert our competitors about who we are interested in?
You’re even moaning about no signings yet … in May!!!! We might not sign anyone till July, and some will be in August. Chill out, it’ll happen in the end.
I’ve spent a fair bit of time in Belgium (even played at Heysel) and what i’ve seen on the TV of Wasilewski is that he would be ok in the Prem but i think he’ll spend at least 6 games of the year suspended!!
He’s very very much like Stuart Pearce was … cruching in the tackle!!
I would like to see him paired with a better distributer of the ball as his 2nd touch on the whole end with ‘hoof’

11 Kiwiwolf.
I agree with you Patience, some of the Wolves fans do not know what that word means. Leave to MM he knows what he is doing.
This guy sounds like another no hoper. I think we should get Camara back as Stoke don’t want to keep him, we could also resign Cort now he is a free agent and then we’ll have the old Premiership partnership back.
Don’t forget guys that most 99% of the so called possible targets will be paper speculation and agent advertising their players. As in previous articles MM & JM aren’t going to advertise what work is being sone behind closed doors.
Judge on the actual signings.
Up the wolves!
he looks a tough guy in the Tommy Smith/Chpper Harris mould. Yes i know he’d miss a few games through suspension, but i’d love to see Ronaldo try and con him once or twice and see what the ‘Brute’ did to him.
Seriously though, we need to beef up a bit, as a few of current aquad are a bit lightweight, and this guy can score goals too.
This is where we’ll get the experience from. Premier League teams won’t sell anybody any good to a competitor. At best we’ll loan a couple of youngsters from the big 4 (hopefully Mancienne).
Our purchases from English clubs will be from the lower leagues. Some will work such as Kightly, SEB and Stearman. But we’ll also buy a couple of flops such as Eastwood and Darren Ward. Hopefully the good will continue to out weigh the bad.
If he’s got a bit of strength about him, might be fun watching him sledgehammer through posey Ronaldo and the like!
Do people reading these ‘Wolves linked with’ newspaper s***e stories about transfer targets really believe them all. We would be buying two new teams by now. Who cares about speculation and since when do Wolves have to info all the supporters when they are going to buy someone.
No 5 Ad Mant, be sure to let Molineux know when you are going out shopping next and what you intend to purchase, get a life mate
Report abuse
Secret Wolf, an obvious baggies supporter, you need to try harder mate!
WILL ALL WOLVES FANS CALM DOWN, THE WINDOW DOES NOT OFFICALLY OPEN UNTIL JUNE 1st, ALL THESE PLAYERS ARE ALL SPECULATION BY E&S TO SELL PAPERS. SERIOUSLY GET A GRIP!!
He sounds reasonable to me, you can talk about flops but rousell etc were strikers that didnt get goals, as long as this guys solid and worst case he is a back up for foley. Im disapointed at not picking up the likes of Butt and Sol due to wages, sift out some of the rubbish weve got to make up for it!
The transfer window opens on 1st July
Report abuse
21…
I take it you preferred Iverson and Silas?
OxfordWolf please tell me why you would like to see sol and butt at wolves sol is not as good as he used to be he will take up most of the wage budget and he wont do any good for us.

People moaning about not signing anybody yet and when we do make our first couple of signings they’ll still moan about them.

You have just proved my point Secret Wolf. WolvesinSpain cheers for the correction.

4: I assume you watch a lot of Belgium football to know exactly how good this guy is ? you don’t have to play in the Premier League to be of Premier League standard.
& 5: how many players do you expect to sign before the transfer window opens ?
How many football managers are on here? Over the last three years MM, Moxey and the scouts have done an excellent job with signings. Even with players like Eastwood, we got most of our outlay back. As for Foley, Elokobi, Jarvis, Kites, Vokes and Ebanks-Blake absolute snips!
We will have to shop abroad, as there are not loads of talent in the Premiership and some sides will be greedy.
Trust the management team. Morgan is shrewd. There are a number of teams we can compete with!
This blokes absolutely rubbish.
I’ve never seen him play but I can just tell from his photo
Report abuse
Calm down, calm down… I dont think the transfer window opens until next Monday (1st June) – so its a bit optimistic to expect new signings already.
Great to see so many sensible comments re the ridiculous. Yes it’s frustrating, but we KNOW Jez & Mick & Steve much prefer to work behind the scenes – the first we’ll know is when it’s announced. Trust them, for goodness sake. They have got us here. The rest is all media and agent waffle.
We know they are not looking at old legs and fat paychecks,ie,Campbell,Butt and co.Solid players with legs and ambition/drive is where we need to go. I think MM and Moxey know it too.Early days yet FANS.

Everyone moans when we sign British based/Irish based players, then when Mick decides to look further afield – he gets criticized.
Get a grip you lot!

I still think we should be in and around the jungles of Brazil. Where class breeds fast. They know how to kick coconuts and make it work. Let’s not get away from it Brazilians have brought a lot of success into the Premier clubs.
Why are ‘reports in Holland’ linking a Polish international plying his trade in Belgium to three English teams?
Let’s wait and see and let MM and Taff get on with their jobs.
I still think we should be scouting in and around the Jungles of Brazil. Where these player’s know how to kick coconuts and make it work. The success of Brazilian player’s shows in most top flight premier clubs.

Re No 7…..Some of us do not have a job. I have supported Wolves since I was a child, I am now in my 50`s. Yes I have been a season ticket holder, however, at this time I cannot afford to go. I take my daughter with me, she is 16 and has also been a mascot, within the past four seasons. I enquired about a ticket for the Doncaster match. Only ones available were in the Steve Bull upper corners at £27.50 each, with no concessions, pu tto this all the other expense, travel, programme, club shop, etc. a very expensive afternoon out. I, we, want to go to the matches to show our support, but unfortunately the cost is beyond us. The celebrations that we the supporter want is the open top tour so that we can say a BIG THANK YOU to all concerneed. Job seekers allowance does not go very far unfortunately. Come on me Babbies!!!
We need a gritty centre back as I feel Stearman and Berra although very good players havnt got that physical edge or that bit of dirty which is needed in the premiership but to have somebody next to them that has could be a great bit of business. Jonas Olsson should also be a target and Ryan Nelson. We do need experienced heads interesting chat with my my mate last night who thinks thinks we will get and stay up with these 8 (as quoted by moxey) players:
- Mancienne (loan)
- Davenport
- Ledley
- Gary O’Neil
- Aaron Ramsay (loan)
- Adam Johnson
- Tuncay
- Shaun Davies

Has Morgan lost his cheque book?
No signings,2nd rate targets!
We are no further than Burnley in progress!
I am very concerned!
UP THE WOLVES!!!

looks a good signing from the limited info available, some of the comments on here make me laugh so much , thanks a lot roll on august 15th

Number 5s probably never been to a match so obviously these celebrations will have passed him by
Report abuse
Dont want him, lets stick to british players look at them lot down the road you cant say the players names & where did they end up?
As a Baggie I have no comments about your signings. Just wanted to say how sad that 39 Dudley can’t afford to attend games. The way things are going in the country he won’t be alone but while the ‘Johnny come lately, prawn sandwich brigade’ are coming because football is flavour of the month, the money mad people running the game won’t care about the traditional fans who are being priced out. Great shame.

I’ve just read on the Arsenal website that Fabregas has been comparing Arsene Wenger to Mick McCarthy.
Well done on the award Mick.

Come on lads, its just reports ay it, Dont know why wolves rejected huddlestone though, £8million is a bargain for a player of his quality jus wat we need…. UP THE WOLVES!!!! 1 week left till transfer window :-)
This player does look useful.
As has already been mentioned our team could use a little beefing up and the fact that he is so good at scoring from set-pieces along with his ability to play full back or CH seals it for me.
He could do a job for us next season…
Report abuse
actually my main gripe was the celebratory red tape – living in London means i dont get to as many of the games as i would want – an open top parade would have been a great way for me and thousands others around the country to celebrate en togethr.
There has been quite some outrage of late regarding public celebrations, in particular the recent St George’s day debacle and I feel this is just another slap in the face of the man in the street.
but no, its all about who goes to the most games really. Does the winner get a badge?

Dow need a RB we got supa Kev, Karlos Henry can always fill :-)in. BTW a 4 year contract for an average – poor Fizzy Pop League Player!!! Neil Collins still got 3 years left, aahhggghz

45 Proably the most true comment on here, sad but true. I speak to a spurs regualr from suusex and I told him about the huddlestone thing, he reckons we would get him for 5 mill, said he aint worth 8.
carp we should be getting tom from spurs at only £8mil is a steal, moxey said we would be competative on salary and spending, talk to sell tickets. hope i wrong but watch this space we’ll sign no one weve ever herd of.
Not all of us are season ticket holders, for various reasons (time off work, cost, distance etc). If you think that there are only the 25,000 Wolves fans who were at the QPR/Doncaster match, then think again, you muppets! Thousands of us missed out, and the one chance for us to join in i.e. a bus parade never happened.. From a Wolves fan since 1987 who’s been a season ticket holder for 15 years, but jacked it in during the Twaddle era. I managed a few games last season, but had no chance of getting a ticket at the end of the season thanks to some of you glory hunters!
I see we are getting ominous comments from Moxey that spending a lot of money will not guarentee survival .This is true of course, but it is equally true that spending a lot of money has helped lots of clubs survive in the Premier and when you survive you get the £30m plus year on year.It is also true that NOT spending a lot of money is a sure fire way of getting relegated. There should be no excuses this time if we don’t really go for it.I see we are linked today with Mokoena,a free transfer, fringe player, from a struggling Blackburn side.
i can’t believe the most sensible comment on here is from a baggie.
As for who is signing and when, well lets just keep the faith and see if the managment can unearth a few little gems eh.
come on me babbies

We need mancienne no matter what the cost.

Is he a centre-half or a right-back?

Like the article says – Wolves have been linked – Is that a new word to replace “alledgedly”?
My concerns are probably the same as most Wolves fans:
1) Bring in enough Prem Proven Quality to balance/ strengthen our “young & hungry”
2) Bring in these Prem Proven Players (min 3) well before they get together to start pre season
3) Get the defence sorted well before the start of the season (Too much tinkering cost Boggies dearly this season)
4) Add any quality players from abroad or UK – But try and make sure they are a decent standard and have some pace – unlike mssrs D Ward, N Collins etc – competition for places is important BUT the lesser quality players will be exposed in the Prem &
5) Have more than Plan A to combat the other Prem sides tactically or get battered
NB* If we have no intentions of recruiting better than average Prem Proven Players for whatever reasons – at least get out there and bring in the best of the rest – to give us a fighting chance at least NOT 8 similar players who are no better than what we already have (not bench warmers)
I dont have much faith in Mr Moxey for the Prem as he failed miserably last time around – Moxey has to get this right BEFORE Pre season starts or we will struggle – I hope he does well for all our sakes’ as SM I believe will provide the funds we need/not for project players but for players we need/ MM will do his best – regardless of results BUT MM needs the tools to do the job!
The clock is ticking – lets see some decent talent at the Mol next season!
WE ARE WOLVES!
Whilst the transfer window does not open until 1st July? Players can still sign pre contract agreements,My main worry is that Moxey will again wait until the last minute to try to save money This would be a big mistake,Players should be identified and bids lodged Before other clubs jump on the band wagon.

Buy the BRUTE ! According to a Polish contact, this hard-nut never gives up,has a great engine and lets no-one take liberties.Pacey too.Sounds like Bob Hazell in a Polish costume, sign him up NOW ! only obstacle to this signing could be the alleged interest of CSKA and Roma.
Lee Croft from Naarwich has been released by mutual consent – available on a free and a decent player that has been linked with us – any thoughts anyone? Possible signing?
You lot need to relax! do you not realise that somebody can play both right back and centre half? obviously not at the same time tho! half of you know nothing of world football so how do you know the standards of these players?
