Mick is crowned top boss

wd3317446Mick McCarthy continued Wolves’ silverware success after winning the League Managers’ Association’s Manager of the Year last night.

The Molineux chief won the Championship award at a glittering ceremony in Nottingham after guiding his team to the Premier League last season.

Wolves won the title with 90 points, seven ahead of second placed Birmingham City, to return to the top flight for the first time since 2004.

McCarthy, 50, won the Championship Manager of the Month twice during the season as Wolves topped the table for the majority of the campaign.

They clinched promotion with a 1-0 win at home to QPR in April before winning the title in McCarthy’s hometown of Barnsley with a 1-1 draw in their next game.

There was also double delight in the Ferguson household after Sir Alex and son Darren both claimed awards.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex, in Rome for the Champions League final with Barcelona tonight, won the LMA Special Merit Award for his success this season after winning the Premier League and Carling Cup.

Darren, Peterborough United’s manager, took the League One gong after guiding Posh to promotion to the Championship.

Everton’s David Moyes was awarded the Premier League prize for the third time in his career.

The Scot, who guided the Toffees to fifth in the top flight, as well as the FA Cup final, has previously won the award in 2003 and 2005.

Brentford’s Andy Scott was named as the League Two manager of the year after taking the west London club to promotion.
