Wolves not interested in Hart
Tuesday 26th May 2009, 11:29AM BST.
Wolves are progressing with transfer targets – but have no interest in Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
The youngster has been linked with a loan move to Molineux as he seeks a year’s football next season, to be chasing selection for England’s World Cup squad.
But sources reveal there has been no efforts by boss Mick McCarthy made to sign the under-21 international, who lost his place to Shay Given last season.
Wolves already boast Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme as their two first-choice keepers, but ended their Championship title-winning season with two on loan, Shane Higgs and Graham Stack.
The club have also rubbished stories linking McCarthy to his former club Celtic, after the manager was installed as one of the favourites for Gordon Strachan’s successor.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “It’s absolute nonsense.”
Wolves are not interested in Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink either.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Molineux over the last few days.
But the Dutch forward, who has scored 34 goals in 78 games since his move from PSV Eindhoven in August 2006, is not on the wanted list.
Wolves are looking for double Championship Golden Boot winner Sylvan Ebanks-Blake to build on his impressive reputation at the lower level, as well as provide him with competitive support.
Manchester United’s young striker Fraizer Campbell is a possible candidate by that reckoning.
One reported target out of the equation is South African international Aaron Mokoena, who has signed a three-year deal at Portsmouth after leaving Blackburn.
Rovers boss Sam Allardyce said: “He could have left to go to either Wolves or Portsmouth.”
Mokoena, who only played 10 games this season, is keen to get more games under his belt with the World Cup being staged in his homeland next year.

i dont think we need hart to be honest
he is very good but hennessey i think will be ok.
mick wont go to celtic. hes just got us promoted so surely there is no way he will leave.

Seasons over now Mick, no more excuses lets see some movement. Sure we could get Tom for 6 mill if we asked nicely!
Joe Hart, good keeper, premiership experience, probably a bit better than what we’ve got. It aint his fault the best keeper in the league is playing infront of him is it?
Give the Celtic job to TM, and watch Albion do a Charlton and Norwich.
forget tom! and forget hart, i do think we could use another keeper but not a kid, we need an old head if anything to help blead through youngsters like hennesey and ikeme.
by the way if we do sign a midfeilder and i hope we do then reocoker would be much better value for money

No great loss. Not exactly our weakest area is it!
Can we please have no more mention of us buying any Newcastle rejects? I watched the Villa game and didn’t see any player worthy of a second thought. They were awful.
I think a few of us Wolves fans need to calm down a bit. It’s nearly 3 months before the start of the season and it will be at least 6 weeks before any deal is done. Can we not start attacking the club, saying we’re showing no ambition because we haven’t already spent 10s of millions.
8 mill for Huddlestone, plus his 1.5 mill per year wages would have been a dreadful bit of business. Operation needed and people are saying we should have paid this????????
For that type of spending, I’d expect guaranteed quality. What would Peter Crouch cost us? I’d pay that much and more for him.
Jermaine Beckford has been put on the transfer list by Leeds. Surely worth a bit of a punt.
BE PATIENT!!
Well we need another Goalkeeper in my opinion as Murray is a liability – though a nice guy, he is too injury prone to be competition for the other two.
Why are Wolves and Blues being linked with the same signings?
I know the Bluenoses have a track record of hijacking the tescos signings i.e. Vine and O’Connor but don’t they know we’re much bigger? honestly…

“Can we not start attacking the club, saying we’re showing no ambition because we haven’t already spent 10s of millions.”
I will tell you why fans are doing this. It’s because they don’t realise that Jez Moxey runs this football club purely and solely as a BUSINESS. Do you really think he cares that much about who or what we want? The bloke has a sensible head on his shoulders, and i like him.

Huddelstone is lazy and not worth £6mill

5. Jermain Beckford??!
He has a terrible attitude and is only proven in League 1, NO WAY!
Again, not a single quote..
Except for the one rubbishing reports linking MM with Celtic……
Quality reporting from the E&S as usual!!!!
I agree with getting an older head in, I hear the Carlos Kameni is available on a free and think he would be a great signing..
Just seen on Sky that Mokoena has signed for Portsmouth from Blackburn on a 3yr deal.
I believe he was touted as a target for us??
Quick movements by Portsmouth considering their season finished 2 days ago..
With us considering Sean Davis it looks all the more likely now, although not happy with their rejects when people try and suggest that we should be competing for position with them??
Don’t want to go on about slow movement in the market, but we see this kind of thing all the time and yet we wait and wait for our signings..

Beckford! Great a 3rd division player! Thats ambitious. Most Leeds fans i know, and thats a lot, dont even like Beckford themselves. Selfish, greedy, moody, sounds like the Freddy Eastwood scenario again. No thanks.

We need strong physical players now that we are small fish in a big pond. Strength and skill combined is called for at the top level.
Wheater would be good, Jordi Gomez & Jason Scotland, players who have no fear and play with feedom of expression. A big man up front to compliment SEB ( a Kevin Davis/ James Beattie type) Stephen Taylor is probably the only Newcastle player I would encourage to sign, although O’Neil of Boro is good and can score goals from midfield.
Have patience all WWFC supporters, MM & JM will get it right.
you could have put on that headline –
Wolves have no interest in Tevez. Not exactly content rich. Looks to me, from the outside, like the E&S have as much idea about who we are lining up as me and my cat.
The last 3 seasons we played top flight football we ended up getting relegated on each occasion. The last thing we want to do is make it 4 out of 4; that would be some record we certainly don’t want.We should have a real chance this time to make a go of it,but it needs the will to make things happen in the transfer market.Moxey will always think of the business side as Wolves Mod has said, but there is a serious risk that this will condemn us to always being a second tier football club. The best bet we have got is that Steve Morgan knows a thing or two about business and football, and maybe, just maybe, he will deliver for us.
Harper from Newcastle is the keeper we want to buy
or take on a seasons loan. He needs to be in the premiership and Newcastle can take one of ours to get the experience they need, win win for all concerned
Injuries aside Giles Barnes for £2.5M – he will prove to be a very good player. Then we would need 2 fast and experienced centre backs, a new winger and a forward so those 5 players we can get. Keep the faith, its early days.
Even with Hennessey, Hart would be a good capture as he has Prem experience and could be the key to us getting off to a good start – but if MM is not interested then it would seem he believes we can cope.
As for MM being linked with the Celtic job, that’s the first I’ve heard of it and I read many football websites every day, so maybe the E&S is ‘spicing’ up a story once again?
Why would Mick want to leave a top 10 prem side (in terms of size of club) for some backwater league? We just need to get a foothold this season and we can be a real force again. Mick knows that.

OK, my Beckford idea wasn’t received favourably. Thought he might be a good addition to the squad who come come on and have an impact, but I’ll bow to the superior knowledge of others. Perhaps I should have spoken to the Leeds fans I know first, something I usually refuse to do on principal. However, with people constantly suggesting the ageing Jason Scotland, I’m not the only one having bad ideas.
Again, I’ll ask the question. How much do you think for Peter Crouch?
lving in a dream world. peter crouch would want 100k a week to come near us. though a tall guy with wingers should score more goals than he knows what to do with.
what do people think of cisse? not a terribly nice guy but sunderland passed on him and he scored 12 goals. top scorer got what? 18 food for thaught.
18….Missed off Man City, they should be a place above Wolves (although in 2 years time with their money they might be above not quite so nouveau rich Chelsea)
Crouch would cost us between 6-10 mill, depending on how desperate Portsmouth are.. my guess is 8 mill.
Do I think he’s worth it? Not if you can get Zigic for 5 mill no.. but, either would be a great partner for SEB in my opinion!
GB’s Premier Yead (18) – interesting list – but i’m intruiged to know why Chelsea are so high up on your list? If you feel Wolves are worthy of such a high position then you must be taking the clubs history into account. On this basis Chelsea are in no way the 4th biggest club in the Premiership in my opinion!!
Back to the original discussion though, agree – lazy jouralism. E&S clearly have as much an idea as the rest of us do about potential signings. The longer it stays that way the better. Hart would be a no from me too though. Great keeper but agree with previous sentiments, if we want to bring in a keeper it needs to be someone who can add more experience to the side and help Wayne. Hennessey isn’t the finished article yet, but he’s still young, particularly for a goalkeeper. But the only way he’s going to gain that experience is to play games!
6 Yep Matty M injury prone – class keeper when fit – hope he gets a run in the Prem – Imv could do with an experienced keeper – wouldnt mind Dean Kiely from Boggies better than Boggies “England keeper Carson” and one of the reasons they had a better run right at the end of the season – young Wayne could do with a quality “experienced” keeper to “steady him”
10 Beckford excellent scoring record in lower leagues – Now on transfer list – is there someone better available?
It may only be E & S mischief-making, but if it were to happen, I would GLADLY pay St. Mick’s relocation costs to Glasgow.
AND THAT IS A FIRM OFFER.

24 Qwerty, I know what you’re saying, I do history is a large factor, but recent history must surely be weighted a little more than history further back.
I also think support, catchment area, potential, wealth, media coverage, honours, ground and current status are factors too.
You can’t build an equation though because it is totally on gut feel. I just know Wolves are a bigger club than Sunderland. Or are they?

How is this news…?
We’re not interested in Heather Mills-McCartney either, or George from Rainbow, or the blonde one from Girls Aloud.
…ok maybe the last one.

Don’t forget if we have to look back to the Championship, Division 1 or 2 for players to play in the Premier league, we might need a little motivation. The electric chair next to the substitutes bench might help. We need “existing” Premier experience.

GK- Martin Fulop …. established as No.1 at Sunderland (not looking to leave)
DF’S- Steven Taylor ….. would go to a bigger club than us (if moves)
- Ryan Nelson …. ok possible
- Mancienne ….. Everton!

Give it a rest with all your shortlists yeah?
We aint signing NONE of them.

Kevin Nolan?????????
… and people critisised my suggestion of Jermaine Beckford.
I would love to see Mancienne back, but can’t see it happening. The only realistic names in that list (29) are Joe Ledley (very good option) and Tom Huddlestone (not for 8 mill though).
Our problem is that the quality we need is from the level of club we will be competing against for survival. Why would the likes of Pompey, Blackburn or Sunderland sell anybody any good to us when it could get them relegated? For this reason, our ‘experience’ will come from abroad.

How will any of the above players get a game in frount of mighty S Ward

who exactly are we interested in. all we seem to be doing is saying no to every and some have been decent targets

Huddleson is the only one i would consider,as for smith and owen god help us,and if ever they ever considered robinson from the tescos then that would be the the end of football for me.

We have been interested in players, nearly signed 2 the other day who passed their medicals however MM decided the wage was too high in the end. So we are out there looking for targets and it’s being done privately not publicly; the way it should be unless you want a bigger club to steal your hot prospect signings.
MM knows what he is doing, have faith

21 den dennis ive been saying for weeks how i think cisse would be a great player for wolves either on loan or buying him as you say 12 goals in a poor sunderland side not a bad return his power and pace would help us up front with seb and those haircuts and colours are crazy just what we need WE ARE WOLVES

I do totally agree with your comment aimed at Wolvo. Without the commitment of players like Stephen Ward we’d now be preparing for a Black Country derby with The Tescos.
If we have 11 players with Stephen Ward’s attitude next season, we’ll do ok.
