Wolves not interested in Hart

Tuesday 26th May 2009, 11:29AM BST.

joehartWolves are progressing with transfer targets – but have no interest in Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The youngster has been linked with a loan move to Molineux as he seeks a year’s football next season, to be chasing selection for England’s World Cup squad.

But sources reveal there has been no efforts by boss Mick McCarthy made to sign the under-21 international, who lost his place to Shay Given last season.

Wolves already boast Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme as their two first-choice keepers, but ended their Championship title-winning season with two on loan, Shane Higgs and Graham Stack.

The club have also rubbished stories linking McCarthy to his former club Celtic, after the manager was installed as one of the favourites for Gordon Strachan’s successor.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “It’s absolute nonsense.”

Wolves are not interested in Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink either.

The 30-year-old  has been linked with a move to Molineux over the last few days.

But the Dutch forward, who has scored 34 goals in 78 games since his move from PSV Eindhoven in August 2006, is not on the wanted list.

Wolves are looking for double Championship Golden Boot winner Sylvan Ebanks-Blake to build on his impressive reputation at the lower level, as well as provide him with competitive support.

Manchester United’s young striker Fraizer Campbell is a possible candidate by that reckoning.

One reported target out of the equation is South African international Aaron Mokoena, who has signed a three-year deal at Portsmouth after leaving Blackburn.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce said: “He could have left to go to either Wolves or Portsmouth.”

Mokoena, who only played 10 games this season, is keen to get more games under his belt with the World Cup being staged in his homeland next year.

Joe Hart, good keeper, premiership experience, probably a bit better than what we’ve got. It aint his fault the best keeper in the league is playing infront of him is it?

Give the Celtic job to TM, and watch Albion do a Charlton and Norwich.

by the way if we do sign a midfeilder and i hope we do then reocoker would be much better value for money

No great loss. Not exactly our weakest area is it!

Can we please have no more mention of us buying any Newcastle rejects? I watched the Villa game and didn’t see any player worthy of a second thought. They were awful.

I think a few of us Wolves fans need to calm down a bit. It’s nearly 3 months before the start of the season and it will be at least 6 weeks before any deal is done. Can we not start attacking the club, saying we’re showing no ambition because we haven’t already spent 10s of millions.

8 mill for Huddlestone, plus his 1.5 mill per year wages would have been a dreadful bit of business. Operation needed and people are saying we should have paid this????????

For that type of spending, I’d expect guaranteed quality. What would Peter Crouch cost us? I’d pay that much and more for him.

Jermaine Beckford has been put on the transfer list by Leeds. Surely worth a bit of a punt.

    BE PATIENT!!

I will tell you why fans are doing this. It’s because they don’t realise that Jez Moxey runs this football club purely and solely as a BUSINESS. Do you really think he cares that much about who or what we want? The bloke has a sensible head on his shoulders, and i like him.

    Again, not a single quote..
Except for the one rubbishing reports linking MM with Celtic……
Quality reporting from the E&S as usual!!!!

I agree with getting an older head in, I hear the Carlos Kameni is available on a free and think he would be a great signing..

Just seen on Sky that Mokoena has signed for Portsmouth from Blackburn on a 3yr deal.
I believe he was touted as a target for us??
Quick movements by Portsmouth considering their season finished 2 days ago..
With us considering Sean Davis it looks all the more likely now, although not happy with their rejects when people try and suggest that we should be competing for position with them??

Don’t want to go on about slow movement in the market, but we see this kind of thing all the time and yet we wait and wait for our signings..

We need strong physical players now that we are small fish in a big pond. Strength and skill combined is called for at the top level.
Wheater would be good, Jordi Gomez & Jason Scotland, players who have no fear and play with feedom of expression. A big man up front to compliment SEB ( a Kevin Davis/ James Beattie type) Stephen Taylor is probably the only Newcastle player I would encourage to sign, although O’Neil of Boro is good and can score goals from midfield.
Have patience all WWFC supporters, MM & JM will get it right.

The last 3 seasons we played top flight football we ended up getting relegated on each occasion. The last thing we want to do is make it 4 out of 4; that would be some record we certainly don’t want.We should have a real chance this time to make a go of it,but it needs the will to make things happen in the transfer market.Moxey will always think of the business side as Wolves Mod has said, but there is a serious risk that this will condemn us to always being a second tier football club. The best bet we have got is that Steve Morgan knows a thing or two about business and football, and maybe, just maybe, he will deliver for us.

Harper from Newcastle is the keeper we want to buy
or take on a seasons loan. He needs to be in the premiership and Newcastle can take one of ours to get the experience they need, win win for all concerned
Injuries aside Giles Barnes for £2.5M – he will prove to be a very good player. Then we would need 2 fast and experienced centre backs, a new winger and a forward so those 5 players we can get. Keep the faith, its early days.

Even with Hennessey, Hart would be a good capture as he has Prem experience and could be the key to us getting off to a good start – but if MM is not interested then it would seem he believes we can cope.
As for MM being linked with the Celtic job, that’s the first I’ve heard of it and I read many football websites every day, so maybe the E&S is ‘spicing’ up a story once again?

OK, my Beckford idea wasn’t received favourably. Thought he might be a good addition to the squad who come come on and have an impact, but I’ll bow to the superior knowledge of others. Perhaps I should have spoken to the Leeds fans I know first, something I usually refuse to do on principal. However, with people constantly suggesting the ageing Jason Scotland, I’m not the only one having bad ideas.

GB’s Premier Yead (18) – interesting list – but i’m intruiged to know why Chelsea are so high up on your list? If you feel Wolves are worthy of such a high position then you must be taking the clubs history into account. On this basis Chelsea are in no way the 4th biggest club in the Premiership in my opinion!!

Back to the original discussion though, agree – lazy jouralism. E&S clearly have as much an idea as the rest of us do about potential signings. The longer it stays that way the better. Hart would be a no from me too though. Great keeper but agree with previous sentiments, if we want to bring in a keeper it needs to be someone who can add more experience to the side and help Wayne. Hennessey isn’t the finished article yet, but he’s still young, particularly for a goalkeeper. But the only way he’s going to gain that experience is to play games!

6 Yep Matty M injury prone – class keeper when fit – hope he gets a run in the Prem – Imv could do with an experienced keeper – wouldnt mind Dean Kiely from Boggies better than Boggies “England keeper Carson” and one of the reasons they had a better run right at the end of the season – young Wayne could do with a quality “experienced” keeper to “steady him”

24 Qwerty, I know what you’re saying, I do history is a large factor, but recent history must surely be weighted a little more than history further back.

I also think support, catchment area, potential, wealth, media coverage, honours, ground and current status are factors too.
