Singer Scott signs up to Glastonbury
Tuesday 26th May 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Wolverhampton singer songwriter Scott Matthews has been announced as one of the acts to play this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The Ivor Norvello Award winner, whose new album Elsewhere features guest vocals from Robert Plant, plays the Acoustic Stage on the Friday, June 26.
The 33-year-old, from Penn, joins big names Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Blur, who were today revealed as headline acts on the Pyramid Stage.
Other veteran performers included are Lichfield’s Tony Christie, who joins Status Quo, Tom Jones and Madness on the bill.
This year the festival sold out in February, with most tickets being bought the previous autumn.
Sales flagged for the 2008 festival with thousands left in the run-up to the event, which some put down to the unusual choice of rapper Jay-Z as headliner.
Organiser Emily Eavis said: “We know that there will be objections to whatever we do but if last year taught us anything, it was that we have to follow our gut instinct.
“Risks pay off, and featuring Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen in one weekend was a choice that surprised many. But we had a chance to get both performers, and we had to take it.”
The line-up for the Other Stage features younger acts including Bloc Party, Ting Tings, Pendulum and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Black Eyed Peas and The Streets will perform in Jazz World, while Doves, Jarvis Cocker and Echo and the Bunnymen headline the John Peel stage.
This year’s festival takes place from June 26 to 28. For the full line-up, visit www. glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up
