Drivers warned over M6 lane closures

Tuesday 26th May 2009, 11:30AM BST.

Sections of the M6 in Staffordshire will be closed overnight from today near Wolverhampton as part of a project to install new equipment.

The Highways Agency will be installing new message signs to two new gantries between Junction 10a, Essington, and Junction 11, Shareshill, between May 26 and 29 and from June 1 to 4. The work will take place overnight with other works and maintenance needed along the motorway being carried out at the same time to minimise disruption.

From tonight, two lanes of the M6 northbound from Junction 10a to Junction 11 will be closed from 10pm to 6am.

Traffic will be run in lane three, there will be no need for a diversion route, and access to Hilton Park Services will be maintained.

The closure will take place again tomorrow when the right-hand lane of the Junction 11 northbound exit slip road will also be closed for the safety of road workers.

On Thursday, two lanes of the M6 on the southbound carriageway from Junction 11 to Junction 10a will be closed from 10pm until 6am.

The Junction 11 southbound entry slip road will be closed and there will be a signposted diversion route from Junction 11, along the A460 to Junction One of the M54, then along the M54 to join the M6 at Junction 10a.

Motorists wishing to join the M6 at junction 11 and travel north will still be able to do so. Drivers wishing to join the M6 at Junction 11 and travel south will need to follow the diversion route.

From next Monday to Wednesday the northbound carriageway of the M6 will be closed from Junction 10a to Junction 11 from 10pm until 6am. There will be a diversion route from Junction 10a along the M54 to Junction 2, then along the A449 to the A5 roundabout, then along the A5 to rejoin the M6 at Junction 12 near Cannock.

Further information about the roadworks and diversions can be obtained by visiting the Highways Agency website at www. highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/18319.aspx or calling the Highways Agency Information Line on 08457 50 40 30 at any time.
