Bus driver injured in crash dies
Friday 22nd May 2009, 3:04PM BST.
A bus driver who was hit by a single decker at Wolverhampton’s main station died in hospital today after his life support machine was switched off.
Father-of-three Satpal Singh suffered serious head injuries in the accident last Thursday morning, which shut the Pipers Row station for around 16 hours.
His nephew Suckvinder Singh, aged 35, of Bradmore, said this afternoon: “We are devastated. We had a call yesterday from the doctors saying he was very ill and we should go to see him.
“He was such a kind and quiet man and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He had all his family with him when he died.”
Mr Singh, aged 52, of Lambert Road, Park Village, had just finished work and was heading home when he was struck by the National Express West Midlands bus, which then collided with another single-decker. One of the buses then hit a shelter. He was taken to New Cross Hospital before being transferred to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he died.
A female bus driver with a foot injury and two women who suffered breathing difficulties after witnessing the crash were also treated.
Mr Singh leaves his wife, Balvinder Kaur, 49, as well as two sons and a daughter.
