Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Albion star backs Ferguson move
Wednesday 20th May 2009, 10:28AM BST.
Albion midfielder James Morrison believes international team-mate Barry Ferguson would be “a great asset” if he was lured to the Hawthorns.
Morrison reckons Ferguson’s experience could be a vital extra ingredient in the club’s Championship campaign.
Albion have sounded out the former Scotland captain Ferguson over a possible move to England, with the Rangers midfielder thought to be keen on the prospect of a Championship promotion campaign.
Now Morrison, who played alongside Ferguson for Scotland, has backed any prospective move.
The Baggies star said: “Barry is obviously a top player and has been for years. With his experience, he would be, if he signed, a great asset.
“That is what we have been lacking, a real leader. I think experience is the key for us.
“I think the fans would certainly be excited if he was to sign, given the events of the past week.”
Sources in Scotland suggest the £1million-rated Ferguson watched Albion’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, after his advisors were sounded out about his availability.
The former Blackburn midfielder’s Ibrox career is effectively over, after the controversial late night drinking session with Gers team mate Allan McGregor while on international duty.
Then the duo’s two-fingered ‘salutes’ after they were left out for the World Cup qualifier against Iceland landed them with lifetime bans from international football.

He is the last player we want down the Albion!

Might just convince Morrison to stay too by the sounds of it.
I don’t think Jonno Greening will be too amused by the “leadership is what we were lacking” comment though, do you?

I THINK HE COULD BE THE NEW DEREK MC INNES

Great! a boozed up, childish, has-been midfielder from the equivalent of League One. Can we look elsewhere please?

I totally agree with Stratford Baggie when the announcement of our interest was made yesterday I posted the same opinion, if you want the new Derek Mcinnes we need to sign Paul Hartley.
We have better player and Captain in Jonathen Greening without having to waste valuable funds on Ferguson

I’m not sure about this. Leadership qualities on the field yes. Where is going to lead them off the field?

12 months too late, but will help you get out of the Chumpionship.
Sorry for posting on your page, but I’m sick of reading our posts about signing Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo.

No.8 – You’re honestly with regards to Kaka and co, is a breath of fresh air!
I’d rather concentrate on signing a permanent, good striker which is what we need. We’ve had enough of our players in the press, all for bad things over the years (and obviously currently with Roman Bednar), we don’t want another one!
Leadership?? Jonno Jonno Jonno Jonno!!

8 – LaughingWolf anything to do with those posts by any chance?

We could end up buying yet another midfielder when we already have Tex, Brunt, Koren, Dorrans, Greening & Morrison. Fergy would cost us another £2M in wages ! Surely we can do better than this ?

I read these pages but dont tend to comment much because of the stupid sniping that goes on between the fans, a sensible post from a wolfie and we have people having a go at him about it, I see this place hasnt changed much in 8 years has it!!
As for Ferguson he would be a good signing, totally different player to any we have at the moment and would release Jonno to go forwards even more.
One player isnt going to make or break us but a few good signings like this would see us a much much better team come the new season.

8 Shamrock, 11 Ned.
I’ve been reading the Wolves posts recently (to get away from some of the moaning and sniping on here.) Laughing Wolf is now using aliases over there as the Wolves fans really hate him and ridicule him more than we do. They’re obviously his posts, same ridiculous suggestions, same format but at least using a nom de plume suggests a level of intelligence previously unexpected.
As for Ferguson, I can understand the worry after his Scotland antics but I suppose we need to trust the manager. I think if anything at all, last season has proved that we need more leaders in the squad, we have Jonno, Olssen and Robbo but when some or all of these were missing was when we lost our way. At the age he is now Jonno is going to become more susceptible to injuries, we can’t rely on him to be an ever present.

You’d be better getting reinforcements in the 2/3 of the pitch that you tend to not use – oppo’s penalty area & not many of your guys like playing the ball in their own penalty area – tappy, tappy sideways football will STILL get you nowhere next season
Report abuse
Please sign him now !! Ferguson is a fantastic player, ask any Rangers fan a great captain, leader and as hard as nails, exactly what we have been missing – his crime, having a few to many beers !! If only we could have had him at the start of this season, oh how different it might have been, maybe his qualities might of helped us get 3 away wins instead of the 1 – and kept us up.

Cant believe any Albion fans can moan about us trying to sign a tough tackling centre midfield leader, with an eye for goal, bags of European experience and a club and international captain !!! Who do you want ????

Best stick to commenting on the kick and rush style you understand. Although you will never be able to challenge the big four using it, as you’ve found out this season.

first time on here cos most of the time everyone contradicts themselves, it winds me up that you condem a player of the type everyone was moanin that the squad desperatley needed! I personally dont care what he drinks aslong as he gives our back four some protection and will give someone a rolicking when needed, cos you dont see jonno doing it very often do you??

totally disagree with andy l’s comments, ferguson is the best and my all time favourite player to be honest his leadership qualities and fantastic ball distribution are second to none, albion could really do with this type of player more than p hartley. if he does come the albion it will be rangers loss.

Villan, go away and play with your toys. Your season fizzled out too in case you hadn’t noticed.
TM knows Scottish football well enough and he obviously thinks Ferguson can be handled. Let’s give the bloke a chance, we haven’t even bought him yet! If he comes and plays, we support him as we do our team. Make no mistake, if he shows a ‘bad’ side, he’ll find out the gaffer is strict enough. LoffinFowl must be a bit lost right now. All the money men have had their hands in the till and are busy saying they couldn’t help it. At least he’s got us.

every fan is intitled to have their say but its type of player needed and one reported drinking session should not cloud their judgement so we should wait see if he signs watch him play and then make our views for or against him tm is aware that players like morrison and brunt and one or two more will depart for pastures new so look on the positives and keep our faith for a steamrolling season under tm

We need a defensive midfielder, like Ferguson or Mulumbu in my opinion, and we need a centre forward who can finish off chances…..would that Simon Cox fit the bill? I have never seen him play, so I couldn’t comment, but his goals ratio is excellent in the lower leagues.
We also need a centre back who will be able to play alongside Olsson for at least 90% of the matches next season, instead of needing to swap and change all year long (although I’m hopeful we’ll see Neil Clement kick a ball next season).
