Statistics can be deceptive in speedway but all the figures are adding up for Wolves at the moment.

Their deserved 12-point win last night over favourites Swindon 53-41 took them six points clear at the top of the Elite League.

Super Swede Fredrik Lindgren is still unbeaten in 28 league races at Monmore Green this season.

Only in the final heat, with the match already won, did any member of the Wolves top five drop a point to someone other than Robins number one Leigh Adams.

The match remained close over the opening heats but yet again Wolves moved clear as the races unwound, once more Lindgren and skipper Peter Karlsson brought the house down in heat 13.

Both had already inflicted a defeat apiece on the super smooth Adams – Karlsson from the gate in the opening race, Lindgren via a desperately brave outside run in heat 11 where he kept it wound on to slip through a rapidly diminishing gap.

A 5-1 over the former Monmore track record holder was the stuff of dreams for home fans, but that’s what they got.

Adams was quickest away but Lindgren, carrying daring entry speed into turn three, flashed past on the inside and somehow retained both shape and momentum to emerge clear.

The startled Robin was then left to contemplate another shock, as Karlsson also squirmed through to join his young compatriot at the front.

Adams at least had the satisfaction of denting Karlsson’s maximum hopes in the final heat, leading from lights to flag.

Indeed PK for once had enough on his plate just to land second place from teenager Jurica Pavlic.

The highly impressive pairing of Tai Woffinden and Adam Skornicki landed a brace of 5-1 victories as did the Karlsson/Nicolai Klindt combination.

While the skipper was again flying – comfortably under 55 seconds in heat one – it has to be said that Klindt was hardly overshadowed.

Full of confidence, the Dane landed two wins and even headed Adams for a couple of laps.

His memorable outside charge round Ryan Fisher and Troy Batchelor in heat eight – how Klindt loves a bit of dirt on the wide line – was even followed by a super trap from his least favoured gate one two heats later.

Wolves’ domination was underlined by 12 heat wins out of 15, leaving Swindon team boss Alun Rossiter to conduct a lengthy debrief with his riders at the end of the match.

The Robins will bounce back and may well inflict a similar scoreline in Thursday’s return at the big Blunsdon bowl.

But this was hugely impressive stuff from the in-form Parrys International Wolves.
