The FA have confirmed they are looking into weekend press reports, apparently showing Bednar buying cocaine and cannabis outside his home.

Bednar is set to be grilled by Albion officials later this week, as part of the club’s internal investigation into the scandal.

The 26-year-old has already been suspended by the Baggies while they look into his actions.

FA spokesman Mark Cooper could not confirm how recently Bednar was drugs tested, but he confirmed English football’s governing body is looking into allegations in a Sunday tabloid.

He said: “Players are prohibited from taking social drugs at any time and we will be looking into the matter.”

Bednar has refused to elaborate on a statement he issued on Sunday evening, several hours after his suspension, expressing his sorrow and regret at the stories.

His statement did not address the content of the allegations, but he reportedly told the Sunday newspaper responsible for the ‘sting’ that he had bought the drugs for someone else.

The striker’s future at Albion is now shrouded in doubt after his suspension and members of the Bednar camp have confirmed he will meet with Baggies officials later this week.

He is likely to face tough questions about allegations and pictures, suggesting he handed over £420 to a dealer outside his Sutton Coldfield home for cocaine and cannabis last Saturday.

His fiance, Deniz Askinova, was also said to have paid £360 for more drugs later last week.
