Solange coming to Birmingham
Saturday 16th May 2009, 10:00AM BST.
To mark the release of her new single T.O.N.Y, Beyonce’s sister Solange, along with the Hadley St Dreams, will embark on a UK tour with a stop at Birmingham’s Rainbow venue on Saturday, May 1.
The single, which is released on June 1, is taken from her eagerly anticipated album album Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams, which entered the US charts at number 9.
Solange wrote the dance floor smash with Cee-Lo, who shot to fame with the critically acclaimed Gnarls Barkley.
“I ran into Cee-Lo in a club and begged him to come and listen to the album in the car, and from there he was on board,” says Solange.
“We wrote and recorded T.O.N.Y and Sandcastle Disco that next week!”
Solange is emerging as a multi-talented performer, having become a singer, songwriter and actress, with a host of achievements already under her belt.
As well as co-writing her sister Beyonce’s songs Get Me Bodied and Upgrade You, from the album B-Day, Solange has also co-written Kelly Rowland’s song Love Off, from the album Ms Kelly, and Michelle Williams’ club smash We Break The Dawn.
“If I had to describe the sound of my record,” says Solange, “I’d like to think that it’s as if The Supremes, The Marvelettes, Dusty Springfield and Minnie Riperton were to make the music they did in the 60s and 70s now, but with a modern touch.”
Sol-Angel and the Hadley St Dreams also features collaborations with the likes of Pharrell, Jack Slash, Mark Ronson, Q-Tip, Raphael Saddiq and the legendary Lamont Dozier.
The brand new video to T.O.N.Y is available to watch online now and features cameo appearances from Cee-Lo and Kid Cudi.
