Richie Hevanz of Heaven's BasementHeaven’s Basement
Little Civic, Wolverhampton
Concert review by Ian Harvey

The sold-out signs were up as heavy rockers Heaven’s Basement took to the stage at the Little Civic last night, but singer Richie Hevanz still had a scowl on his face.

Health and safety regulations meant that punters were being turned away downstairs, even though there was still apparently room to spare in the upstairs bar.

Maybe that accounted for his fired-up mood as the five-piece swaggered on stage like global superstars and ripped the place apart.

From high energy rockers like Executioner’s Day to the power ballad Mirrors and the infectious Can’t Let Go, Heaven’s Basement proved they deserve to be gracing much bigger stages. Think old-style Aerosmith swagger meets Guns ‘n’ Roses with a modern sheen.

Like some musical version of snakes and ladders, these great British hopes have had to start from scratch not once but twice as circumstances forced them to ditch their earlier incarnations as Hurricane Party and then Roadstar.

The hurricane may be over but this is one party that doesn’t want to stop.

The Little Civic crowd was suitably warmed up for the evening by two local bands,The Whiskey Syndicate and Liberty Lies, both bands’ sets full of hard riffing songs.

this band oozes quality, with songs constructed in the traditional rock format, a classic album is surely imminent.
