Former Wolves rider passes away

Former Wolves speedway rider Vic Ridgeon has died at the age of 80.
Cockney Ridgeon, who was born in Bow, east London, was a popular rider and helped re-establish Wolves when the Monmore Green circuit reopened in 1961 after a seven-year break.
Signed by promoter Bill Bridgett, he became one of the club’s early stars and scored 200 paid points that year at an average of just over six.
Ridgeon also rode for Wolves the following season, increasing his average, before moving on to Rayleigh where he eventually became resident.
A frequent visitor to reunion events, he would recall his days at Wolverhampton as among the happiest of a long career.
