Peace issues Albion rallying cry
Friday 8th May 2009, 3:13PM BST.
Chairman Jeremy Peace issued an Albion rallying cry as fans braced themselves for possible relegation this weekend.
The Baggies could lose their Premier League status if they fail to beat Wigan at the Hawthorns, but Peace has called on fans to keep up their recent support of manager Tony Mowbray.
The chairman pledged the club is in “good shape” for next season, either in the Championship or the Premier League.
He said: “Our supporters have once again been a great credit to the club and deserve all the plaudits they have received.
“The fact we have already sold 16,000 season tickets for next season when our league fate has yet to be decided underlines just how loyal our supporters are.
“They have rallied behind the manager and players more than ever in recent weeks and we have been very unlucky not to have earned more points recently.
“Now it is essential that we complete the season with our heads held high and carry as much momentum as possible into next season.
“Regardless of the outcome of the final three games, the club will be financially in good shape for our next campaign, whichever division we are in.”
Fans have thrown their full support behind the club in recent weeks, despite the growing probability of relegation.
More than 16,000 season tickets for next season were sold under the ‘early bird’ scheme and supporters will show their support for manager Tony Mowbray by donning special Mowbray masks for the final game of the campaign at Blackburn.
Albion have announced ticket sale dates for the trip to Blackburn on May 24, although Rovers will not confirm allocation or prices until after their meeting with Portsmouth on Saturday.
Seats will initially go on sale to all season ticket holders who have gained 231 loyalty points on Tuesday and the number of loyalty points required will drop by nine each day, with only one ticket available per season ticket.
